P5K-E water cooling solutions

I've just ordered a P5K-E board and was thinking of adding some chipset cooling to my water loop.

Does anyone have any thoughts on using Northbridge, Mosfet or Southbridge blocks on a P5K Board? I was thinking maybe just the Northbridge and the mosfets that already have the pipe linked passive coolers on.

Of course I'm planning to overclock as much as possible. :D

I have my CPU and Southbridge W/C'd with an Alphacool kit and that works quite well. Looking at the P5K-E the NB should be easier to WC as it has proper mounting clips where as on the Vanilla one I have its spring loaded otherwise my NB would be WC'd.

On the Asus Probe software I am reading sub 50 CPU and identical readings on the mb temps so it would appear to be working well. Gaming in UT is nice :-)
 
I was going to go with better northbridge cooling first as isn't that where the memory controller is on an intel board?

Do the mosfets get very hot? Are you overvolting lots?
 
My voltage is set to auto and I haven't really checked out what voltages are running at although VCore is reported as 1.34-1.4 in asus probe. Mosfets are same as NB temp wise from what I can feel. I would have put a block on the NB if it wasnt held down by the silly springs and had a proper clip like the P5K-E has
 
With my Q6600 running at 3.6GHz full load my chipset and mosfets get pretty damn hot. Would not want to be holding my hand there for any length of time.
I've got myself a Swiftech MCW30 that I will be putting on the chipset when I can next be bothered to take apart my loop.

Not decided what to do with the mosfets yet though, I'd like to watercool them too, but at around £20 a mosfet block I don't think its really good value for money as they are only going to really warm my loop up. I'm looking at multiple loops in a new case, or putting some air heatsinks on.
 
Pinkfloyd, have you got the P5K-E wifi mobo that doesn't have the mosfet heatsinks on the top ones? I've ordered some gpu ram heatsinks to go on these for now, they were only 7 quid.

I think I'm going to get an EK northbridge block as I've got to split the loop when I fit the new board anyway so I might as well do it then.

How do plan to plumb the MCW30 into your loop? I've been looking at those 'f' adaptors that swiftech do.
 
Yeh nothing on the top mosfets. But the heatpipe from the chipset goes over the other set on the back of the board. I've got a load of copper memsinks that I'll happily put along the top ones (improvement on what is there already) just slightly weary about doing it on all of them with how hot they get, along with the fact I'm not going to have a huge amount of airflow around there being completely watercooled / passive.

I'm not certain on how I'm going to plumb it in yet, depends on whether I do it in my Eclipse with a single loop, or whether I go buy myself a Lian Li A71 after getting paid and go for dual loops :)
I don't know much about how well the F fittings work, I'd be worried that the flow down one of the 2 routes would be much weaker if it all went the other way. The last thing I want is poor flow through any blocks.

I think that's the whole point in the 'f' connectors. As long as you fit them pointing in the direction of the flow then the flow drop should be minimal, if at all. Gonna look into it further though before doing it.

I guess dual loops is the way forward if you've room, which I don't I'm afraid.

I only have my Q6600 at 3Ghz and the mosfets and NB get v hot to touch after priming. This has tempted me to incorporate them into my loop, but like you've mentioned, Im not sure if itll be worth the £60 for the additional waterblocks, let alone the warmer temps. :rolleyes:

Let us know how the NB waterblock goes dude :)

If I watercooled the mosfets I'd probably have them in a seperate loop along with the chipset and some smaller gauge tubing and most likely a 120.1
 
Hey PinkFloyd, how much does a block cost for VRM cooling? If its more than £12 ish don't you think those Thermalright Skyscrapers are worthy of consideration at least? whats your thoughts?

Sorry I don't know anything about water cooling but I'm an fanatical air 'Overcooler' :D

I'm currently running cpu>92.2rad>gpu>120.1rad>cpu

I was thinking of putting the NB block in the loop inbetween the cpu and the 92.2 rad but was worried that the heat in the system after the cpu would have an adverse effect on the NB temp and consequently be worse than the stock cooler. Not to mention the effect it might have on gpu and cpu temps.

I'd really appreciate some advice on this as I can't make my mind up!
