Hello

I'm having problems following a new system build I'm working on.
Hardware is as follows:
P5n-E SLI
E6600
BFG 8800gts
Enermax liberty 620w
2G GeIL PC6400C4
Antec gaming case
1 ide HD 1 sata HD 1 ide dvd-rw

Bios boots up and sees everything OK. Mem check OK and temp at 38 (in Bios monitor).
I try and load windows (via HD or boot cd) and the system restarts.
All the bios is on default appart from mem setting that are set to 4-4-4-12 2t and voltage at 2.1 as I thought it looked like a memory issue.

Appart from borrwing a friends PC and trying each bit 1 at a time I'm at a loss.

Any idea's anyone

Thanks.

Yep its a new install. currently trying to boot to windows CD. I select boot from CD and a few seconds later it restarts.
I connected a HD and unplugged the dvd drive to be sure and it tries to load windows and reboots.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Removed the IDE HD and I get the same restart when the XP cd detects hardware.
Tried the Sata HD as well and had the same result.

try relaxing your memory, 5.5.5.12 or run it as the M/B detects SPD settings, dont just set what the ram says as sometimes the board will see it diffrently.

Thanks again for the suggestions all.
upped the core a little and no change.
So defualted bios and still have the same issue.
Even with only the dvd attached it still reboots on inspecting hardware.

Like I say this one has me. I've tried most hardware connections (even tried not using my G15 KB) ....

I'm a little lost on this one so any advice would be welcome, feel free to ask even noob like questions I may have missed something.

Only plus side is I have all bank holiday to fix it and can still play Warcraft on my laptop...

Right, try removing one stick of memory, (try one at a time)

IS the cpu fan seated right, even though the bios says 38, it's only idle, and not really working.

Quick update.
I was able to update the Bios via the usb flash util to 401 but still getting the same restarts.
Tried every memory setting I could find on the web and it did nothing.

Going to try and get my hands on a friends pc today to test each element in turn.

Ok another update.

I've now tested the system with different ram, gfx card and psu.
Still have the same restarting issue.
I can only think now its a problem with the CPU or MOBO.

Unless there is a bios setting I've overlooked I'm now thinking the Mobo is faulty. This is my first 775 install but from passed experiecnce when a cpu is at fault the system will not post at all. The C2D's could be different tho.
The heatsink seems to have installed and clicked into place OK and is well fixed to the board. Cpu temps in the Bios monitor (after a restart) are normal 35-38.

I have a clean IDE HD and DVDrom with xp boot disc. I press anykey to boot from CD and the message comes up its inspecting my hardware. System then restarts.

Ok now I feel like an idiot...
Turned out my windows XP cd was the issue.
Once I got my hands on another CD all was well.
Like I said sometimes we are too busy looking at memory timing and voltages and miss the most noob of issues like a bad cd.

Thanks for your help everyone who responded.
:D :D :D
