Hi,

Im having a bit of a nightmare with my P5N-E motherboard (at least Im assuming it is, suppose it could be the graphics card).

I've recently bought a ATI HD4870 and cant seem to get it to run at anything more than PCI-E 1x (link width). As a result the benchmarks etc have been less than impressive.

I've tried playing with various bios settings, pushing the PCIE Frequency was suggested on a few forums, but I edged up to 110 without any change.

I've even tried flattening my OS, and a clean reinstall with just the NForce drivers and the ATI drivers still shows the same problem.

I've reset the bios to defaults, changed nothing settings wise, and it still wont run at 16x.

I patched up to the latest bios, again no joy. I dont have the old graphics card to test which is a bit of a pain.

Im about ready to send the motherboard out the window, but thought I'd see if anyone else had any suggestions?

Make sure there is nothing in the PCIe slot and that there is nothing covering the pins on the card itself. It might very well be a faulty card but as stated, try your old card first.

There have been issues reported with some cards needing a BIOS flash but not relating to the p5n-e

I'd had a nighmare with the silly paddle card on my Abit N650i board so it may be worth taking that and and swapping it about.

Have you tried GPU-Z to confirm the 1x PCI-E?
