having a bit of a nightmare getting all this to work. does anybody have a step by step guide to setting up raid 0 with 2 raptor 74gb hdd's?

i have done the following:
connected both drives to the intel controller
set up raid 0 with ctrl + i
set bios to boot from raid set
started the windows xp install process, pressed f6 and fed in the floppy created from the cdrom.
then when starting windows it all blue screens. been messing about for days......
I have also got the geil 6400 memory....should this be set to auto in bios or at 800? if i leave it set to auto it detects it at 5300 is that correct?
sorry for all this.......first homebuilt pc for a few years and so many things have changed!
many thanks - gus
ps - are the new raptors a lot faster than the old 74gb ones? i am considering getting rid of these and having a single 150 but not sure if it would be as fast or not.....

From the "Problems & Fixes" thread on XS:
Blue Screen Of Death when installing Win XP SP2 - Disable 1394 (Firewire) and Jmicron controller from within BIOS.

5300 is correct as you're running at 266 FSB.

I'd like to know the answer to this too - is the 74GB 16MB/NCQ version a lot faster than the older 74GB? Is a single 150GB likely to be faster than older 74GB RAID 0?

many thanks durzel! will get back to you tommorow to let you know if that worked...i suspect that setting my memory at 800 wont have helped things either! - im running bios version 1301....is that the most stable?
thanks for being so helpful. gus

1301 is a stable BIOS I think. 1405 is out but I think it's beta.. it wouldn't make a difference to the problems you're experiencing though.

The whole memory thing caught me out the first time I used the board because I'm using to seeing specific "1:1" "5:4" "2:3" ratios in the BIOS. This board does the same, but you see the DDR2 frequency instead.

Basically it should be DDR2-533 in the BIOS when your CPU is "Auto" or 266 if you're going to set it manually. This will give you 1:1 timings.

cheers durzel - thats worked a treat...i made another error.....somehow i had some intel drivers on the boot disc but not the correct ones, once id remade the disc it all worked fine. can sleep at night now!! ; )
