I have the above MB + 4 x Raptors in a Raid 10 format using the onboad IHC thingy.

There are also 4 vacant SATA's and I need to add some more drives into my PC for file storage - how can I do this?

khushy

Fit the new drives in the case, connect to the vacant SATA ports and power as appropriate.
Boot the PC
Check the correct drivers are loaded for the Marvell SATA controller
Right click on My Computer & pick Manage.
In Disk Management partition and format the drives as required.

PS - can I have another RAID configuration via the Marvell connectors in addition to the IHC setup I already have??

khushy

Yes, the Marvell controller needs to be enabled in the BIOS

Yes, you can have another RAID array (or arrays) on the Marvell controller as well as the array you have on the Intel controller. The only restriction is that you can't use the fourth Marvell SATA port at the same time as the eSATA port.

thanks for the straight-forward advice - much appreciated and I will be sorting this today as I have 2 x spanking 750GB drives ready to go!

Dont use eSata - so thats not an issue.

Last Q - how do I configure a RAID with the Marvell connectors?

Khushy

RAID config on the Marvell controller is done in a similar manner to the Intel controller - hit the appropriate key combination when the Marvell BIOS splash screen appears at boot (despite having a Marvell controller on my board I've no idea which key it is). It's then just a case of creating an array of the required type and adding the available drives to it.

ooooooops - me again

Right - I have successfully installed the drives - activated the BIOS and paired them as a RAID in the Marvell BIOS utility - HOWEVER when I go to windows - it shows the drives as unallocated etc and there is no where to sort them as a RAID!!!

When I activate the drives from windows - the RAID that I had created in the BIOS is deleted and I have 2 x 750GB drives with letters!!!!

HELP PLEASE
