Probably a stupid question, but it would be nice to get it confirmed.
A lot of the research I've done on RAID seems to suggest that separate PCI-E RAID cards are recommended for RAID setups, but I can see that most motherboards (mid-high end) seem to have RAID controllers on board.
Is it correct to assume that the current crop of Sandybridge motherboards contain everything needed to connect two or more SATA drives in a RAID configuration on board without the need for extra hardware. Also, would this be termed a hardware RAID setup and not a software solution?
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks.
