p8h61-mx problem!

Hi i recently purchased an asus p8h61-mx and a new sata hard drive. The hard drive is detected in the BIOS and its set as IDE but it is not found in the actual Windows 7 Installation.. what is the problem?

If it's a new hard drive, did you install Windows on it yet? Otherwise it's just a blank unformatted drive.

Its a brand new hard drive but that is my problem - The hard drive is not detected in windows 7 installed

Ah, sorry, misread, change the SATA mode to AHCI, and try then? Which Windows 7 are you installing?

changed onto AHCI but got same results, any suggestions?

Could try sticking the chipset drivers on a USB drive, and then during the installation, there should be an option to search for drivers. Chipset driver can be found here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8H61MX/#download

And just to check the drive is working, can you plug the drive in another PC and see if it appears in Disk Management?

driver installed fine however, the disc still cannot be found. Yes it does appear in Disk management

should i connect the new hdd with my old motherboard and try loading windows onto it? then switch them around when it is done?

UPDATE: Changed the sata cable from slot 1 to 2 and it worked fine - possibly faulty slot or maybe loose cable. Thanks for your help!
