Hey, I have just bought a pair of JBL 115 speakers and a W Audio DA1300 Amplifier and have found the speakers to be very nice on the mids and highs but lacking a bit on bass...

I know you can get bass bins, I was wondering if I need anything else apart from another amp (probably another W Audio DA 1000/1300) and two subs (looking at the JBL JRX118S)

Thanks

Have you tried posting this in the hi-fi section? There are some knowledgeable chaps who regularly post there, but don't normally come to sound city, AFAIK. Worth a shot. :)

Yes, you will need an active crossover of some kind.......
I would get something like the Behringer DCX2496 UltraDrive if you can afford it, instead of trying to fanny about analog one (although this would be much cheaper).
I would also try and get yourself a decent amp for the bass bins, maybe a 2nd hand Crest P series or Crown Macro/Micro Tech (ma).
As a rule of thumb, 2nd hand pro kit will sound much better than new cheap and cheerful tat! Also could be worth building your own if you've got decent woodworking skills....... have a look at speakerplans.com.

What are you using the PA for?
Depending on what you're doing you may get away with using only one bass bin but you still need a crossover and amp.
Late 2007 I decided to get rid of all my speakers, amps & crossovers and decided to buy a 3000 watt Mackie Active PA system which has solved many problems.
I've got one of these gathering dust - http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipme...lization-and-loudspeaker-control-system--4431

First (as stupid as it sounds, and depending what you're using them for); have you tried turning them up? Mid, high and bass frequencies don't maintain balance with volume, ie turning it up gives more percieved bass and less treble and mid with volume (all variables staying the same).

And, generally speaking, you'd be safe to get JBL subs because manufacturers tend to make one speaker with the accompanying speakers being taken into account.

I did look at getting a single bass bin, wasnt sure if it would be enough for me though.

I thought I would need a crossover, I will probably get a analogue one simply because I don't have a lot of cash to blow on this.

Its used for live music (Guitar School so mics, guitars and drums) and I also do a bit of DJ'ing. Mostly drum and bass and chart stuff.

Would getting passive subs and an active amp be better than just getting two JBL Active 118s'? (1 to start)
