Hi All,

Just at the planning stage of my system build. I have all the components and am currently trying to figure out the best layout.

I have a Thermaltake Armour case and will be watercooling with a PA120.3 rad. Using 1/2" tubing.

The instructions for the RAD mentions having the bleed screw at the top , however, for me to achieve this I would need to drill 2 holes in near the base of the case and the poistioning would mean they would be through a card slot - and could be messy.

If I inverted the rad, then I could drill 2 neat holes through the top exhaust grill. Clearly, I would need to ensure the res is higher than the rad and there was a straight line (ish) of tubing to the res. The other problem I could foresee with inverting the rad would be that I would be pumping warm water in the top - and warm water risesand therefore I may not acheive the cooling potential of this rad.

SO, I would apreciate any observations, comments or alternative methods of mounting. OR are there aftermaket PCI slots which would take 1/2" tubing.

Thanks

Mike

Hi All,

You don't need to go from the res to the rad. I'm guessing you've "learnt" that the rad should be before the cpu to get the coolest possible water to your cpu? Your loop should be whatever is easiest as the temperature range through the loop is extremely small. Res before pump is about the only rule simply because it massively aids filling.

The other problem I could foresee with inverting the rad would be that I would be pumping warm water in the top - and warm water rises and therefore I may not acheive the cooling potential of this rad.

Warm water does not rise when being pushed through a loop at >1gpm! It goes wherever the pressure differential makes it go.

Thanks Mike,

Yes, I'm a totally noob to this and this is my first dip in the w/c environment. I now have all the components (I think), since I have googled, asked on forums and taken advice. I'm now putting all of this into practice!

I'll post when I've finished - with pics.
