PAC code transfer confusion

I had number X on a Sony Ericsson with Vodaphone. I bought an HTC Touch Diamond which has number Y with Orange. I told Orange I want to keep number X and so got the Pac code from Vodaphone.

Today, I notice that my Sony Ericsson has received a text message saying to turn the handset off and back on again for the changes to take effect.

1. Why didn't this happen on my HTC Touch Diamond phone that I bought from Orange?

2. Am I supposed to just take out the SIM in my Sony Ericsson and put it in my HTC? What implications does this have for my stored numbers on each phone?

Thanks,

Jon

I hope you have backed up all your contacts on the vodaphone sim because that sim card is now dead.

You also need to give Orange the PAC code so that they can transfer your old Vodafone number to the Orange sim card.

No, I have made no backup. I was not aware that it would affect my Vodaphone SIM regarding the contacts. I have already contacted Orange regarding the PAC code. The text message I have received says Orange Update: your services have been modified. turn handset off and on again. That is why I am wondering why the Sony Ericsson is getting that text. I would have expected it on my HTC (Orange) phone.

That update from Vodaphone is just confirming that the number has been removed off their system.I had the same when i moved my old PAYG Vodafone number to my current contracted phone.

I tried restarting the phone and it was ok. Then I turned off and tried restarting again but when I press the on button, I see nothing. Is that because the SIM is now dead or what? Even if the SIM is dead, shouldn't the phone indicate that on the display?

I've tried it many times. But are you saying the phone is dead or just the SIM? And if just the SIM is dead, won't the phone still have stuff stored in its internal memory?
