Could anyone give me a bit of advice. I've recently taken out a new contract and ported my number over from my old contract.

After about a week i've been experiencing dropouts and don't have a great signal at work so looking to cancel and go back to my previous provider.

How do i keep my number in this situation? Do i just ask to get the number ported onto a PAYG sim which i can then transfer over to a different SIM?

Also i've just noticed this on their website. Surely the 14 days cooling off period should still be valid shouldn't it?

We will only be able to offer a refund if the goods being returned are unused and in their original packaging. Inserting your SIM card into the handset will signify acceptance of your contract and you will therefore not be entitled to return your handset or cancel your contract.

I believe there is a separate 14 day cooling off period for mobile phone contracts - aside from the normal stuff that makes up the CCR (in respect of distance selling).

It's O2, though i ordered through Mobiles.co.uk

Usually you are signing up to a contract, and buying a phone separately, I recall a contract not being under the 14-day return, so you could send the phone back, but you have to keep the contract.

This was how it was back in 2010, possibly it has changed now.

They switched my number over onto a PAYG sim when cancelling. Then i just got a PAC code for that sim to port my number :)

Ta. I haven't switched network in many years. I just found a good offer yesterday and signed up via Affordable Mobiles to Vodafone with cashback by redemption. Having second thoughts though as there cashback process looks laborious and tiresome (postal outside covid times) compared to mobiles.co.uk (all online). So I'm considering cancelling and signing up with mobiles.co.uk instead.

Also, I hadn't realised you don't get to choose a PAC switch date now. I got PAC code yesterday and gave it to them but nothing from Three (losing provider) or Vodafone to say when the switch will happen. Feel like I'm just going to suddenly lose service or does it rely upon the new SIM being activated?

A PAC code should last 30 days so you can choose any time in that time frame.

Usually it takes 24 hours Mon - Fri, but maybe they dont have as many staff in the office to approve these requests at the moment.

The new sim should be activated to receive reception. You will lose it on one and it will be on the other. I usually have old sim in an old phone and new sim in phone I want to use.

I transferred from voda to voxi (same network I know) and it took about 5 minutes over web chat.

Yeah the PAC switchover ended up going through slowly over 2 days. Lost ability to receive incoming calls on old SIM and the next day lost data. Then lost ability to call and now emergency calls only. I assume the new SIM works fine now but not activated as I think I'm just going to ditch it and get a PAC from the new provider.

Hmm. Spent 2.5 hours on hold to Vodafone (my first call to them). Left the room and it must have connected while I was out briefly and they hung up.... :D

On live chat they are saying I can't get PAC to new provider yet as current port-in isn't complete. They are saying I can cancel the port in and the number will return to old provider. I'm skeptical of this. Don't want to risk losing my number.

I think I might just wait until they can give PAC (or request it myself if I activate SIM) and then move it. Still well within the 14 days cooling off period.
