Hi, I want to take out a new SIM contract with a different provider but still have three months left on my current one. I want to transfer my current number to the new one. Can that be done when my current contract ends or do I have to do it now and pay an early termination fee?

Transferring your number ends the contract AFAIK, so you'd either have to pay the early termination fee, or use your new contract with whatever number the network assigned you until your old contract ends and you can transfer without cost. There should be no VAT on the termination fee, so you might save a few quid ending the old contract early.
If you text INFO to 85705 from your current SIM you should receive a text from your current provider which will tell you exactly how much you would owe if you ended the contract now. Quite useful.
