Is there really much savings these days between the 2? We're looking at August next year for a waterpark hotel, and it seems there's not much in it (don't know if I'm missing something obvious). Flights also seem to be extortionate.

Only package i have ever gone for are flights and hotel together. Not inclusive, only breakfast included at most, not on a resort but a city hotel.

I’ve gone on lots of cheap holidays this way, but this was before the pandemic and also out of season.

I do have a holiday next month to Croatia, flights and hotel for £350 total for 3 days. Sounds good to me.

Unfortunately it's with kids so have to get shatfed on price  .

What location/hotel out of curiosity as its my country and I'm currently here on holiday.

Going to Dubrovnik, staying in

Nice hotel so looks like a good deal. Dubrovnik is a tourist trap so be prepared to pay inflated prices for everything whilst there.

Better here in Split, more options at slightly more reasonable prices, although everything has increased since last year, some things ridiculously too.

Cheers, I expect it to be a tourist trap but it's only 3 nights, and the room comes with breakfast which will help.

We've done both

We used to regularly go to Gozo a coupla times a year, we'd book flights via Easyjet and arrange our own accommodation.
Flights used to be dirt cheap I think the cheapest we ever got was sub 50 return, with the most expensive being just shy of 300 for our wedding.
Easyjet stopped flying to Malta and jet2 are the only other airline to fly from Newcastle and the prices have been mental for the last coupla years :(

We've recently that majorca/menorca are both awesome for the kids and package is normally the best way to go.
I have found out that it normally works out a lot cheaper booking the normal room or room and breakfast and then upgrading to all inclusive with the hotel direct rather than the travel agent.

@theone8181 where are you looking to fly from and to? How old are the midgets?

Sometimes a short drive to another semi local airport will give ye much better prices.
We went to barbados last november, flights from newcastle were around the 1k mark per passenger and meant a 4 hour layover in london (shudder).

A short drive to Manchester, I think was about 120 for 10 days parking, and our flights were then 400 each!
Well worth the drive

Also bear in mind that the England and scotland school hols are different so sometimes can make savings border hopping haha

We live near Hull, we flew Manchester this year, and Newcastle last year. I've flown from Leeds Bradford, Doncaster and humberside in the past. I think any other airports are then way too far. The kids are 9 and 7 so not too bad for travelling, but we definitely missed a trick not having slides this year (last year was first time abroad for them and there were some decent slides on site). There's some learning we've done, never thought of upgrading later though.

Its a very depends as some like tui have either the whole hotel or some booked out so last night mught be cheaper. You get some cover though if you cannot fly you still pay for the hotel doing separate depends.

I usually look at packaged holiday and see kind of thing i want and then check the price doing it myself.

Good call about airports as well but with kids i dont want to fly in middle of night as well

yeah i think the last time we did the all inc upgrade at the hotel was something like 15/20 eu per adult, like a tenner per midget and under 5s were free. The little un made the most of it looking at how many time she came back with drinks n ice creams haha

it's easy to spend well over that per person when out na bout coupla beers here n there a bit lunch or some snacks.
also easy enough to justify the cost and then still go out for meals if there's nothing on that night at the hotel that you fancy.

Sometime the cost of the all inclusive via the travel agent makes it feel like you need to stay in the hotel 24/7 and we like to go wandering about.

good to hear you do the airport swapping so many kiss it, my dad refuses to fly from anywhere other than Newcastle!

Can't believe the prices on package holidays for 2024  Just got back from Tenerife and was looking at where to go next year. Last year we went to Spain for a week which was £3,300 for the four of us. Next year, for the exact same thing inc the same dates is £4,700 lol

We've now just booked the flights, taxis and a luxury private villa with pool for £2,700

Not sure I'd ever do a package holiday again until they get the prices sorted out.

There are cheaper, but tenerife this year cost us 4k, and similar in majorca was 3k last year. I've seen some nice ones in mainland Spain for 3.3k so not too bad. I'm not a fan of crap flights, this year we flew at 6am, so set off from out house around midnight. That first day was a writeoff as I was just so shattered.

Yeah, but compared to doing it yourself with nicer villas is a no brainer.....so long as you can get the week you want. Most villas are booked up 12 months in advance.

Makes me wonder about buying a villa to rent out.

Who did you book the villa through?

Not bad for just over £200 a night in the middle of August
