OK, so I've got to return two drives to Maxtor as they're duff. I think I have one suitable box in the loft to return it but I'll need another - does anyone have any idea what I can use - or where I can get suitable bits?

You need to speak to Maxtor and confirm but when I sent 2 drives off to Seagate I asked it it would be OK to send both drives in the single box and they said OK providing there was foam separating the 2 drives. So I put 1 drive in the foam cut out, bubble wrapped the second drives and put some foam between it and the second drive, then another layer of foam to top it all off.
You can ask Maxtor to send the replacement drive before you send your faulty one back (if you have a credit card) and then use their packing material to return your drive.
I think the advanced replacement they stopped doing (apart from USA). I recently RMA'ed a Maxtor 250GB Hard drive. But couple years ago i RMA'ed 160gb or 80gb and could do advanced replacement.
Maxtor/Seagate only send out a replacement before you send the broken one back if you live in USA.
I sent my drive back in bubble wrap galour in a firebox box and seemed ok as they sent me the RMA today, took about a week from me sening it off to getting the replacement, and its a Seagate, no more dodgy Maxtors!
