Packet loss issue?

Hey guys, Am getting problems with my internet. Weather it be chrome not loading a page, Youtube buffering issues, Images not loading, Games telling me am getting packet loss etc.

Where should I start with packet loss? My network speed is prefect and my ping is bang on but packet loss is a big issue for me.......

Things like world of tanks I get like massive lag spikes, Which am guessing isn't ping but packet loss.

A few other games are the same yea.

It seems fine now, No issues.

Would buying a new router fix issues like this in a future? Plusnets router is like the cheapest thing I've seen in my life.

Buying a new router is about as likely to solve an issue that hasn't shown up in the 1 test you've done as doing a raindance. Except the raindance will be cheaper.

Get back to basics, disconnect everything from your network except your PC. Leave that WinMTR thing running, play the game, see how you get on. If it's good, add things back onto the network until it stops being good.

If it only happens in one game then I wouldn't be looking at connection problems.

If your NAT setting is set to "secure"; I'd strongly advise you to change it (sometimes NAT settings on certain/specific routers are called "moderate" and/or "strict"). NAT can lead to packet loss and connectivity problems/issues. I'd also advise you on checking your "UPNP" setting, which will deal with any gaming activity on your network. Lastly, you should set a static IP to the device you're using and also try and use DMZ if applicable. I'd possibly say and quote me on this, that it is more your WAN connection than your actual LAN if none of these basic tips and tricks work.

Please don't DMZ anything at this point.

UPnP would be something to try if the problem was a strict NAT. But as it's not. Lets not do that.

Test for PL by pinging your router 1000 times and then ping 8.8.8.8 1000 times. This will distinguish your loss from LAN or WAN

Hence as my post at the very beginning asking if there is loss to the local gateway. It could be a dodgy cable for all we know, so what's the point in going straight to the internet connectivity tests.

+1.

Although, wouldn't most people out of basic curiosity and general logic check their network cabling (both LAN and WAN based cabling)? That's what I do if I have a problem - I do it without thinking, either. I just do it because I want to know if I have any problems with my LAN and WAN network cabling...

I made a new thread I guess it kinda refers to this one and I shall update this one anyway.

I can't test packetloss with this program as it will or wont work, It's random and will happen at random times. Considering I tested it at that time I didn't get that many issues but BF was hell on earth with packetloss.

The cable isn't a problem, Why I know this is am not the only cable connected to the router, There's another 2 computers all connected via cable into this router suffering the same issue as myself, Major packet loss across them all.

I called Plusnet again and they've informed me there still seeing major packetloss issues on the line but have deemed it as "Not urgent" and will refer this problem to BT. BT, Have informed me it may take upto 6-8 weeks to find out the issue and am not a happy bunny. I'd rather go through another router making sure it's not the stupid, cheap plusnet router or something daft but on my other thread I show that changing routers has had some effect although it's not prefect too.

I should also add that NAT is open.

uPNP as always been on.

My firewall is BitDefender with windows firewalls offline and routers firewall offline.

Packet loss to where? Is it just games where you are noticing? To be honest it sounds like Plusnet have diagnosed the issue for you, but just don't want to fix it, which sounds like them. If the backhaul from your exchange to Plusnet or from Plusnet back to the internet are congested then there's nothing you can do, other than switching ISP.

I sadly couldn't change isp even if i wanted too. Where i stay i don't get much choice and the only ones doing fibre here is BT, Plusnet and Talktalk.

Id love to go with sky but they dont do fibre here at the moment for reasons unkown. Am not going BT or talktalk so i guess am stuck with packetlossed filed games ugh. They used to be so good, never had issues with plusnet after a year. Meh! I kinda hope its something fixable in the near future but i wont hold my breath.

Okay with the new router am getting zero packet loss on BF hardline. Its looking good so far, just need to fix some sites not loading which might by my pc rather than the net
