Pad recommendations?

Hi all,

My trusty 360 wired pad is on it's way out, the sticks are worn to hell and it's now getting stuck when plugged in spamming up constantly (spent an hour or so diagnosing this issue in the start menu when I was having to play reboot/shutdown roulette as it was switching between the two like crazy). Looking online these are now quite expensive, do you guys have any suggestions and recommendations for a replacement pad?

Your time is greatly appreciated :)

Not the steam controller.

I'd just get a wireless Xbox controller if you are use to them. I prefer them over PS controllers personally, see if you can get hold of one of those though as you may prefer the shape to the 360/Xbox ones.

I like the xbox one pads. I have a trusty wired 360 pad as a spare, but the xbone pad feels better, and wireless is nice for reducing desk clutter. I just picked up some decent rechargeable AA batts for it and it lasts for ages.

I think Xbox controllers have more compatibility also and work out of the box. I use a DS4 and some programs won't work unless I use another program like DS4Windows.

Had many pads over the years, cheap ones for 4.99 and expensive Logitech's,but and im yet to see better pad than MS XBOX1 pad - just make sure its wired and not wireless. The Elite ones are even better if you are picky person. And you can customize it to your own taste :D

DS4 is a faff on Windows, get annoying problems and have to use 3rd party software for some things.

If you're buying a new pad for PC, get an Xbox controller.

What issues do you have? I find that once I have DS4Windows running, all games work perfectly fine. I do however have an issue with DS4Windows, I use bluetooth to connect and if my DS4 runs out of charge, the entire DS4Windows app crashes and I have to use Task Manager to close the program, then load it back up again.

Just discovered that the Jays2Kings isn't the go to app for DS4 anymore. Hasn't been updated in a long time, so now it seems this https://ryochan7.github.io/ds4windows-site/ is the next best.

I think pad choice comes down to what you're used to, since the stick placement in PS and Xbox pads differ. I've always been happy with a DS3 but generally the Xbox pads are simpler to get going, and if price is no object I've seen the Xbox One Elite generally recommended as the best, otherwise a simple wired 360 pad would be more than adequate.

Cause 360 wired pads are astronomically expensive I looked at 3rd party pads. PDP seemed to be very highly rated and the afterglow one I bought is very good quality. Personally I really like the clear plastic aesthetic though I turn off the LEDs.

It's plug and play, no 3rd party tools at all.

Well, apart from having to install dodgy software from untrusted sources...

I've had issues with games flickering between Xbox and PS4 button sets, the touch pad button behaviour being unreliable etc.

If you're buying a new pad it's a no brainer, get the xbox one that'll work out of the box, no hassles, with Windows.

Not a fan of xbox pads myself very shodyy build quality whereas the ds4 pads last years

How good is the 360 wired pad compared to the current XBox pads?

Xbox one pad. Been using one for ages, wireless and works flawlessly and is still sturdy. Put over a thousand hours in on it since purchase or close to and it works perfect. Even easier with wireless if you have rechargeable batteries to change in and out. If you have bluetooth, do not even need to bother with wireless dongle on new versions of the pad. Shame they just have not updated the Elite control in this regards.

xbox one controller+cable for windows i got recently to replace my old wired 360 controller for pc. its pretty decent but £40, was rather annoyed about the price because if i mind right the 360 one was 20 odd pound before it got discontinued.

I'm still using my launch day Xbox 360 wireless controllers and truth be told haven't found anything better (not tried the Xbox One's yet). I had the option of going in a different direction recently when my Xbox Wireless receiver that is hooked up to my PC died. In the end I just ended up buying a new one and retained use of the controllers.
