If this is not you attempting to wind everyone up again with another 'joke' then you need to call the police.

Can anyone come up with a good reason to have a folder containing child pornography on your computer? From the OP's post its not a few images but an entire folder that hes arranged them in.

Sure you can excuse it in your temporary internet files, because you can stumble accross stuff like that, but if hes actually taken the time to save them into a folder he needs reporting, regardless of how well you know him.

He could say it isn't his hardrive, but if you have his tower its harder for him to explain why he has a monitor, keyboard mouse etc and no computer.

and the fact he doesnt have a harddrive on his computer doesnt give it away? spose depends if the friend is around .... if he is just take harddrive if not the tower

Must say I agree after some of the posts in this forum. The fact it's a "folder" means nothing as to how the images/videos got there. If he has an explanation, he's sure as hell not gonna regard you as a mate anymore when the police come knocking at his door.

1) Go to your police station and ask to speak to someone regard your suspicions.

2) Tell the policeperson what you ahve found, all your friends details etc.

3) Ask the police if they can keep your name out of it, they may be able to, they may not.

4) You could always phone somewhere like crimestoppers or phone the police and not hand your information over.

5) I dont know how old you are but you will probably be wanting children of your own one day, would you want this person around your own children??

Theres no reason not to go to the police, if he is innocent then you may loose your friend but he will not suffer any consequences from it. If he is guilty you are doing children and families all over the world a favour. Me, id even shop my brother if i found things on his HDD.

Talking to your friend is an option, however it gives him chance to get rid of the evidence. Yes deleted items can be recovered, however, a new HDD would have no evidence on it. If you insist on talking to him, you need his HDD first, tell him you want to check it on your PC or something.

Your stuck between a rock and a hard place, loose loose situation.

Well my question is exactly how old is he? Because if he has pictures of fifteen year old girls in this folder and he's sixteen, reporting him to the police would be so bloody retarded it's untrue.

People are assuming FAR too much from an opening post of about three lines. Seems you'd all **** over a mate gladly by the sounds of it on such little evidence.

It would take him maybe an hour to get another hardrive in the pc, even if he knows very little about computers he'd probably still manage it in order to remove incrimination.

Equally though you would have a problem that if you removed anything then he could say you put it there to frame him.

The best bet is to not say anything about it and call the police, unless of course he knows you have found it.

Exactly.

He might of downloaded a load of porn off some p2p thing and just shoved it into a folder, doesn't mean he intentionally downloaded these things.

good point i know a lot of p2p programs which rename them child porn, and rape porn at the end of the file title yes its sick, and i have seen this files on p2p programs but it can be done... so you need to clear that.

On point 3) it's going to blindingly obvious that it's you anyways becuase you're the one who currently has possession of the PC.

Secondly, once again how did you reach that conclusion? We don't know this kids age, we don't know the content of this folder, and what's to say that he's automatically going to turn into a fourty year old paedophile who constantly attacks little children....not very much to suggest that really is there?

For the OP to be so sure that its child pornography then the subjects of the photos must be identifiably children so they are probably younger than 14 or so, or hes asked his mate (In which case his mate should be shopped for knowing that he has child porn).
