He could do that if you decide to tell him, which would prove hes guilty and surely if theres all the files still on there must be emails to him or anything with a form of identification on . Any person could just buy a new pc and say that the pc which was givin to the police was not his . thinking about it the best way would be to phone the police and let them sort it out

I'd also echo someone's earlier comment about being sure that it's actually what you think it is. If it's completely obvious (it's not gonna be possible to disguise a 9 year old for example), then fair enough.

Also I think the OP is probably wise enough to know (probably from getting porn off the net himself, but no accusations

) if there are a few files that have been accidentally downloaded from p2p with child porn in them or if theres a whole lot of them that have obviously been searched for.

Currently in this country there is leniency in the UK is a 16yo has sex with a 15yo. HOWEVER in the case you are stating you overlook the fact that someone TOOK photographs of a 15yo and the potential victims. 'Visual' Peadophilia is not a victimless crime someone is being exploited the fact that it happens on the end of a broadband connection is does not mean no one gets damaged.

I can't help but feel that this is a sick attempt to create a thread designed to get responses like MNuTz's and then further responses to his calling him stupid for jumping immediately overboard.

We don't know the full story, we're unaware of plenty of circumstances.

I have actually known someone whose life was ruined by inaccurate allegations of this sort.

Before I ruined someone's life I'd need to be sure.

Well I know I certainly fancied fourteen year olds when I was sixteen. And while that doesn't mean I went searching for porn, I've no doubt that people may well do. And in my eyes that doesn't make them some sort of sick perverted individual, but it does mean that aren't thinking about how this kind of thing was produced, because most of the time from what I've read it's through pretty dodgy channels.

If the guy has illegal stuff on his computer, give the computer to the police. Better to be safe than sorry, rather than think "its only a few pictures" and forget it. Just think of the emotional burden of forgetting it...

what bs...honestly... at 16 i know this type of thing is wrong, im now 18 when i was 16 i wouldnt dare of typing it into a search engine.

Oh I know it's not victimless (I've just touched upon that in the post before this), but I'm saying that if that is the case, reporting him to the police seems rather harsh. I'd be much more likely to talk with him about it, and let him know about that kind of thing.
