Regarding freeing up space, if you don't use hibernation then turning it off will free up a good few gigs (maybe more as you have 8gb of ram). Hibernation creates a file in the root of your operating system directory (C:/ normally) called hyberfil.sys (a very large file), to see it (if you have hibernation turned on) you will have to change the options in folder options to see it (show hidden files or show protected operating system files, I forget which).
