ok i hace got the paint and have started to wire down the calipers

my question is how much of them do i paint?? the whole lot?? (do i need to mask off the little metal bits the thin rod type things??)

caliper.jpg

do i paint all the little nuks and crannys

I would remove them from the car and then mask up any nut/bolt threads and the piston/carrier (think this is what it's called. The bit you have to push back in with new pads).

What car is it? What does that skinny bit of wire do?

Removing them from the car would mean bleeding the brakes, i would just paint what you can see :)

When it comes to brakes you don't want to be doing 1/2 a job and risk overspray on any other components of the system other than the calpiers.

Therefore I would reinforce removing them and doing it properly.

Bleeding the brakes has to be one of the easiest jobs you could do to a car anyway.

Lets just hope for your sake he’s fine with this. Next news flash.

“Guy tries to tart his car up by painting his brake callipers; car won’t stop after botched brake bleeding job and mows down pedestrians crossing the road. He was such a quiet lad, we hardly knew him really.”

Whatever you do mate, take care and do it right. If you ain’t sure DO NOT DO IT. Brakes are important, and so is your life…

*Public warning moan mood off*

NEWS FLASH

Of course he is not going to remove them if he doesn't know how to do it properly! He isn't stupid! It's probably why he is posting here, to ensure he can do it properly.

Also, how can you botch bleeding brakes?

You’d be surprised. Anyhow, obvious friendly warnings not welcome, nose firmly out of joint, so will leave you and watch the news for the sadden death of someone who tried to paint his callipers a nice colour…

But answer this – Is there ever any guarantee that any motor job cannot go wrong? I was only being offering some safety advice...

Likewise, if he had got paint all over his discs or in the carrier braket then do you think his braking system would operate properly? no.
