Hey all,

I am getting ready for Mrs PSD99 to move in with me soon and she is not keen on the light blue color of my walls.

So I have decided to repaint my bedroom. Originally I got the wallpaper removed and then the walls/ceiling skimmed. I was so eager to paint but waited good 2 months to let the plaster dry.

The mistake I made was I did not seal the walls properly - so with the paint I used Silk Dulux dried I could see bubbles in the wall. I still see bubbles in the wall, at first I lost sleep over my stupidness but now I don't really care. Only someone who will stare at my walls from 10 cm will notice this.

Anyway I wish to go for a Matt finish this time as silk is too shiny
what have I got to do to try and "hide" the bubbles on the walls? and obviously can't paint matt over silk can I?

A quick google suggests that I should seal the wall with PVA and then paint over - however this is very debatable with people suggesting this is NOT good to do.

What do you all think?

We had this a few months ago and the PVA debate kicked off. I can't rememember the outcome but pretty sure maccapacca was also involved :p

I see this debate ALL over the net
people say they been a decorator for 30 years only to be shot down!

Wait until she moves in and then let her tell you what to do ?

Otherwise it will, no doubt, be wrong !

i believe "misting" is when you basically use a water based paint, add extra water then give the plaster a good coating, but i thought that was only for new plaster so i might be wrong?

Wide scraper with replaceable blades will shave off the bubbles and expose the plaster, rub down mist coat 50/50 emulsion water rub down again repeat if necessary then two full coats

If you want to be flash shine a torch up the wall to pick up where needs filling or sanding. Will see a nice finish tjen

nah she is set on the colour magnolia - I think it is okay but would prefer something different like nude glow or chalk white (dulux colours)

Hey all i had a look at the wall again bit hard to explain but here is a pic:

They are very little bubbles like in an aero bar

I am not sure if I got a scraper much paint will come off but maybe if i sanded it down it would help
What you all think? Do the walls look fixable?

Can't see any bubbles in the pic. I smoke, and the walls get stained - so when I repaint I add a healthy dose of PVA to the first coat, then straight paint for the second. Stops the staining coming back through.

If the "bubbles" you are talking about are the texture to the paint, did you use a roller and a non-stir paint? My ma did that on a door - looks bloody awful in gloss.
Use a roller and normal paint, otherwise it doesn't really have a chance to "flow" smooth.
