There's a voice that keeps on calling me.
Hi folks,

Just wondering whats the best way of painting over breeze blocks is. Do I need to put any type of undercoat or can I just paint the masonry paint straight on.

I have same question about an old brick wall too. Ive seen some barrier coating mentioned. My old man said you can coat it in pva prior to painting.

Any advice greatfully recieved.

I think you can paint straight over if they are clean, dry and not flaking, if they are new I'd paint with the below, if they are old, pre painted or flaking I'd use some sort of bonding agent as recommended by the manufacturer.

PVA - no you want the paint to stick to the block not the paint to stick to the sheet of PVA then rely on the PVA bond to hold it all on.

What are you painting? is it an external wall, if it is I'd highly recommend spending the extra on self cleaning or anti fungal paint.

Its a wall ive had put up on one side of the garden. New blocks, and they are quite smooth.

Go for the self cleaning, assume it's not that big so the EO won't be that much, saves it going all green with water splashes and the eventual algae.
