Paintwork Protection

Anyone have any suggestions for how to protect the paintwork from hedgerows and suchlike? The roads round here are so narrow that you routinely get forced into the verges.

You dont have passing spots on the roads in the lakes, not all of them anyway. In the summer the problem is made worse as things grow...
