I understand there is some information on this but it is not helpful to me and so i would like your opinions. I am currently a level 20 mage, and i like it but as i have just done a few dungeons i feel that i would like to be able to heal my party. Which class would be the best option for me, i would like to be able to give reasonable damage, through spells maybe, any experience with both classes, are there any other classes i could try? Thanks a lot ;)

Priest.

I play a raiding paladin myself, ret and holy are both boring as all hell compared to shadow and holy on a priest. Holy paladins are also very, very limited in healing utility compared to their priest brothers.

However, if you like just spamming one spell.. Paladins are good.

Pally's are good healers if all you want to do is heal single targets, they're good at it but very boring at the same time focusing on that. I found it a boring class full stop on the other hand so perhaps i'm biased.

I personally would go for a paladin. They might be boring but i find priests to be the dullest levelling class ever

Priest.

Paladin will offer you the option of being the most fun (in my opinion) tanking class in the game, if you find yourself wanting a change. But they're also very dull and uninvolving healers. Pretty mana inefficient at low levels as well.

Druids are worth looking at too but they suck at healing until the higher levels also. They're awesome once you get tree of life though.

Priest is probably the most balanced overall.

Healing Priest is one of the most enjoyable classes, I've found. Lots of option, viability and flexibility to heal any situation. Takes a lot of skill to be a good healing Priest.

Paladins now though, make a great class - you can tank, heal and DPS and switch between two with the new talent switching option...hence you see lots and lots of Paladin's around these days.

Paladin- you get the best of all worlds - very decent dps, great tanking class, healing is a bit limited but I enjoy it myself. The only downside is choosing which 2 specs to have active at any one time :)

You can call dibs on pretty much any armour or weapons(if you're a greedy sod) as you can use pretty much anything in the various specs, plus you get free(ish) mounts at 30 and 60 - plus a speed increase aura on your mounts at 60.

I like pala as they are amazing main tank healers and if you want you can be OP in pvp as dps or a healer.

Priests are pretty good at raid healing and i have a disc priest on me quite a lot as a tank.Seeing 6k absorts from the shield helps quite a lot!

If you like healing don't bother with the paladin. Priest all the way. You should consider shamans and druids though :)

Versatility, adaptability and general all round coolness - Priest all the way.

Paladins are awesome healers, but its awfully dull.

Another vote for priests. I love my priest and have just given up my shadow dps spec to go disc/holy dual spec. Will help my raid performance a lot when tank healers are needed. Need to get a lvl80 dps class now, to level my druid, hunter of DK is a new question though, thinking druid for kitty.

Why not go for a Shammy?

Because for some bizarre reason blizzard decided to nerf Chain Heal, their iconic healing spell, last patch.....and then buffed Druid healing a bit for good measure. They also nerfed Mana Spring totem, so that it didn't overlap with Pally's Blessing of Wisdom, because nerfing a 5 minute, attackable, stationary 30yard buff in favour of a 10 minute mobile buff makes perfect sense.

I love my Shammy for his amusing WF crits, but its just irritating when if you spec Resto or Elemental, simply put, you're gimped. :( Hell, they even make Enh's totems overlap with DK's Horn, and Pallys buffs. What does a shammy bring to the raid anymore? :(

Priest

Holy priest is the iconic healing class, and they have a very good mix of single and group heals. With the new Dual Spec system you can use Shadow spec for dps or just questing/grinding. Much of your healing gear can be used in Shadow spec too for anything below raid dungeons thanks to the changes to caster gear.

So if you are a druid would you have the tree of life spec as the 2nd? Does it compare to priest in healing?

I have feral as my first and wont be changing that as I love it.

Just finished power leveling a paladin to 80, going to use him as holy/retri, enjoyed leveling with him, even though he is my 3rd 80. Healing is limited to a few buttons, but its about keeping people alive and the fun you have together not having to press 10 different buttons just to heal a few people :D
