I'm going to Thailand for a month this coming november and is seriously thinking of getting a new camera. The LX3 is really nicely priced, portable and offers similar performance to the Cannon G10. Does anyone here own or have hands on experience with this particular camera? I want to hear from you the good and bads about this camera.

Only thing I don't like is the lens cap. I'm already thinking of getting this so I don't have to worry about screwing the cap on and taking it off everytime I want to take a picture of something:

Excellent little camera only spoiled by not having an optical viewfinder. Make sure that the 60mm equivalent maximum zoom is enough for you as I do find it a bit limiting. The lens cap just clips on, no screwing needed, but the Ricoh cap mod does seem popular.

I used to have this camera before I upgrade to a Nikon D60 and I loved it. Don't expect the image quality to match that of a SLR but it offers a hell of a lot of features.

As mentioned above, the zoom is only 2.5x but I didn't mind this when I had it. The widest aperture is f2.0 too, which is really good for low light conditions.

I've never used a G10 to compare though.

Firstly, there is no right answer to the LX3 or G10 'decision', see the 100s of threads on dpreview. However, its fair to say;

- LX3, smaller, lighter and more portable
- LX3, better low light performance
- LX3, wider lens
- G10, bigger zoom (much)
- G10, touch better resolution (pixel basis)

So, basically its the LX3 for me, lots of examples here of what it can do (all out
of camera with no processing);

Lastly, there's a thread on dpreview about one being taken though the south america jungle and surviving 100 humidity etc.
