Would appreciate somone else's perspective on this little dilemma please :)
Looking for a new 42" TV- From everything I've seen and heard the Panasonic plasmas are the only real choice here.

TV will be used for MKVs & emulators through the PC, & motorsport/ the odd bit of general TV.

Therefore, I've now got the dilemma of deciding which precise model to go for. The choices and my thoughts:
1. TXP42X10- 720p, Freeview only; £499
Only real thing going for this as far as I can see is the price. Don't have an aerial, only a sat dish/ box, so the Freeview isn't any real use to me. While I'm not too fussed about the resolution, higher would definitely be useful at times, especially with the PC connection.
2. TXP42S10- 1080p, Freeview only; £649
Only advantage here over the previous seems to be the resolution.
3. TXP42G15- 1080p, Freesat; £799
This is really pushing my budget, but has Freesat and all sorts of bells & whistles. Don't really care about the DLNA stuff, but is the panel any better?

Any thoughts please peeps?

Cheers

What's your viewing distance? If you chose to go BluRay at some point then will look better on the G15 compared to the X10, but only if you sit close.

Freesat HD does look much better than SD, it is compressed 1080i and the difference between the X10 and G15 for this particular signal is minimal, in terms of definition.

Standard definition will look very similar on all 3 screens as there is hardly any differences, apart from the contrast and what not.

Anyways, the price difference between the G15 and S10 is small, but the G15 is the better TV (improved contrast, better shades of grey, blacks, colours etc) latest neo-PDP panel saves you electricity, etc. - but funnily enough uses the same amount of power as the base x10 model as it has more "gubbins" :D

If I was in your shoes I would go for the X10 and save a boat load of cash, you wont be disappointed :)

PS: Hope that made sense at almost 2am in the morning :p

Viewing distance is going to be approx 7ft or so :)
Forgot to mention the PS3, that will probably do some blu-ray, but most hi-def stuff will come from the PC.

More than willing to spend the cash if the TV warrants it!
Can really do without thinking I should have bought the more expensive model three years down the line though, hence why I'm looking for second opinions.

I don't know about the difference between those panels in particular but - I and many many others paid £699 for the infamous 42PX80 18 months ago. This is a well regarded 720p panel and has been awesome for everything i've thrown at it, TV, movies, mkv, hi def, games, PC stuff.

I believe these new panels are even better from what I've read.

So, grab a bargain and go for the £499 model.

OR

If I had the chance to get a freesat 1080p version of my TV for £100 than what I paid I probably would've bought it at the time, so if you can forget about the etra £300 needed in this case then maybe that's your option, particulary of the panel is even better as the poster above says.

But on second thoughts you could get a humax freesat+ which is all singing all dancing freesat PVR (like sky+) box for £250 so if freesat was a major thing for you that might be a better option. But then you'd be looking at paying £50 for 1080p and lacking recording capability.

If you bought the middle set and the box then you could be looking at an extra £100 for kick as freesat capability and a decent panel.

So to sum up, if it was me buying a TV today, after reading some more I'd maybe go for a G15 unless the difference didn't warrant the extra, then I'd probably got for the £499 set and save a bunch of money for other more toys.

does that make sense

I dont see the G10 in your list but I have this and the 42X10 and the X10 is the better set for SD. The G10 and G15 (same panel I think) are better for HD and obviously blu ray but the X10 is no slouch in these areas also. :)

Basically you're all causing exactly the same dilemma :p
Places I was looking in (Major high-street department store) didn't have the G10, and as far as I can see this lacks the DLNA stuff, but is £750 plus warranty elsewhere, so comes out about the same.

PVRs and whatnot- If I ever get round to it, I'll stick a Freesat card in the PC. Further than that, I've got a Toshiba DVD recorder, which does basic recording, and TBQH I don't need any more than that.

Doing my nut in :D

As someone said I don't see the G10 in that list, should be cheaper than the G15 but still have the features you want.

Unfortunately the G10 is £750 plus warranty, so would come out approximately the same :) (Post above!)
I could play SOGA letters, but frankly for the £49 difference it's nowhere near worth the hastle.

Looks like the G15 I think :)
