99% going to buy the panny 50" gt30
can anyone please tell me what these sets are like to view in ordinary light room conditions?
they all pretty decent in the showroom, however am concerned about when i get it home :)

I have the Panny GT30 and I love it. Though if you read the issues on AVForums I don't think you would go near them...

The green blobs issue and fluctuating brightness do seem common. Thankfully I don't have the green blobs (that I'm aware of) but I do have the FBr, which is annoying tbh, but it's still the best tv I've ever had.

I have had a Panasonic for over a year now and it has a great clear picture.
There was a problem with iplayer buffering quite frequently, but with the last system update it seems to be cured

common in the fact that out of the millions they sell only about 10 people have issues - mega common that. Avforums is full of freaks that just love to winge.

True the AVForums posters are usually of the more discerning nature, but since Panasonic have admitted the green splodges are a problem, in the worldwide division and finally in the UK division too, then I would say it's actually a % of total sales rather than 10 people....

As for the FBr, they know that is there too, but it is described as a 'feature' due to the power saving regs....but it's not implemented very well as all plasma's have this power saving feature, just others implement it better.

i think its more common that that. and if you drop a grand on a TV you expect it to work flawlessly. dont you?

OP: if you buy from a store make sure you show you the panel working first

The green tinge and fluctuating brightness were the least of my issues - phosphor lag, dithering, and a weird almost transparent double image (caused by the 3D tech in the 30 series - the recent 50 models aparently have done way with this) was enough for me to sell my ST30.

I have noticed some phosphor trails at times, usually on the edge of peoples faces during a quick pan....

The list of quibbles just gets longer! But I still love the set :)

tbh it wasn't much of an issue in movies and tv, just games, which tend to be very bright/high contrast with lots of panning. I was playing Dead Island and every time I turned to look around the screen would be full of green flashes.

Panny is great but it does have a few faults

1.. the screen sort of shimmers, as if in a heat wave, you detect it out of the corner of your eye, i dont know what it is.... pixel movement

2....it's not that bright on a normal setting, neither are the colours

3....the audio is weak as hell

4....the menu/ tv guide is crap compared to the Sony

even so it's still the best tv around

The fact that Panasonic ended up admitting this was evident says enough really, however the fbr issues seem to have been fixed with the latest fw updates, and the green blob issue can sort itself out over time but sometimes it doesn't budge.

What I've noticed from my experience with these "faulty" sets in the past 5-6 months is that there isn't actually a TV out there right now that is "perfect". Each one has it's ups and downs it's just a question of what bothers you more. Sure there are sets out there with minimal problems but it's quite hard to find a "perfect" TV at the moment.

@ OP: The GT30 is a great set and these issues may not even appear on your set so don't be put off by it. What I would say though is buy from a retailer who has great customer service and returns policy should you have the need to exchange it for above reasons. The set should be fine for viewing in an ordinary lit room :)

Let us know how you get on

Had a 50G30 delivered some weeks back - amazing panel, PQ and colours. No green tinge and loving it so far. The GT30 apparently has an even better panel than mine!
