Panasonic ST50 Owners

Every panel is slightly different, hence the usual 'get an ISF guy round' recommendation -one person's settings won't give the same results as someone elses. On the GT and VT50 they have a THX mode which is pretty good out the box but I don't think the ST's have this mode.

Make sure 16:9 overscan is disabled in the settings.

Set the TV to True Cinema mode, Brightness and Colour are fine at default on True Cinema and just adjust contrast depending on the ambient lighting.

The set is actually pretty well set up at default on True Cinema.

I wouldn't take any advice on any of the advanced calibration settings such as white balance since all panels will be different.

I got an st50 and love playing with settings so do you want settings for games or movies or both???

pc games:
Game mode
sharpness 0
colour balance warm
vivid colour off
cats off
gamma 2.2
Also I have white balance G-gain on -7 but this might be different on yours.

Movies and Tv:
true cinema
sharpness 0
vivid colour off
cats off
pnr off
gamma 2.4
inteligent frame creation minimum
and again I have white balance g-gain on -7 but will probably need different on yours

Brightness and contrast I pretty much always leave near the middle.

Also if you're planning on making good use of the 3D features, I'd recommend you pick up some of the 3D3 glasses from TPS (they have an ebay shop also), I got some yesterday, the difference is pretty huge, the Panasonic glasses I got through the promotion are so much darker and fatigue my eyes a lot more than the 3D3 ones.

+ 1 for that.

The blacks are more crushed on the panasonics but the D3Ds are so much better for long 3d viewing. They are slightly cooler looking (as in blue), but with my vt50 set to cool on colour it looks very natural.

The Panasonic's are too red and over saturated anyway so the cooler look of the 3D3 glasses is closer to how my set looks in 2D mode anyway.

As mentioned every panel is different. But HDTVtest settings below, exact results will vary and could have course make the image worse!
You need to enable advanced calibration.
3D and 2D settings included.
Also you need to set these up for EACH input (with the exception of the adv.calib. IIRC) as the TV saves/allows different settings for each input.
Be warned though, there is no confirm on the reset menu option, I've hit it by accident on more than one occasion and had to redo the settings!

Thanks I didn't know they posted any settings :)

Have you tried them?

I will give them a try tonight

or even the ST50 here, i dont think i can quite stretch to a 55'' screen though, because i dont think Pannys drop in price in the sales that much, it's more like the 32'' to 46'' cheaper brands.

this makes the samsung ps60e530 very tempting, it wont be as good as a Panny but might still be good enough... not sure

They do post them on occasion, but with the caveat of all panels vary/this may make yours worse etc. It is a good starting point though. I cant find the original link now, I have them saved as a text file for reference.

I use them on mine with a bit of arbitrary tweaking to suit my room and personal preference/usage.

I will say that the 3D settings are BRIGHT. They will cause very short term (<30 seconds) image retention on high contrast static images even on a run in panel. Only really noticed after a 3D gaming session. 20 seconds on the scrolling bar sorted it out though.

Definitely noticed the panel's tendency for IR decreases massively after the first few hundred hours of use. I was quite careful to start with and still had a few concerns (F1 lap counter was a good one!) but it seems fairly resilient now.
