OLED
or 902B panasonic

3k budget.

anyone got any suggestions, though i think none of the other sets have Display port and i need that for connection from my pc... so its a must....

what to get thats much higher and has displayport..... i beleave the 902B is panasonics flagship model 55" so if there is nothing else that beats it then i will go for it.

this 58" 802B is going back on wedensday to currys due to uniformity and backlight/clouding issues.
though i did like the look of the samsung 8505 curved oled with soundbar :D looks awesome imho but i was told panasonic 902b beats it.......

thanks guys for the input the card i have is a amd r9295x2 card with 4 mini display ports v1.2a...

so i guess panasonic is the one to go for though im not sure if the 902b is game playable due to input lag but even though its pretty high people say playing there xboxone or ps4 on them have no issues or notice any lag.

if i ditched the panny though i will probably go for that one lol really love them from the plazma days.. and have the GT50b :D great set....

lot of money this and i want to make the right choice
its very strange that only panasonic do the displayport 1.2a compatibility.
if it wasnt for the issues with the 802b i would have kept it as it has an outstanding picture quality and works awesomely through my pc @4k 60hz.
the thing that i like about the 902b vr the 802b is the fact that there are no clouding issues or uniformity issues or colors fading at the sizes of the screen on pitch black screen those turn into grey hazyness.

with the 902b it has diming zones 128 and full led backlight av pannel great colors from all angles and blacks far better due to the way each pixel turns its self off for the purest of blacks.

going to have to think about this some more though im going to currys @10am so i have 4 hours to figure it out hahah... incl the time i spend there.

p.s its a pitty you cant buy a mini display port to hdmi cable that would carry the 2.0 spec. :/

well i might just wait for the CX series and get those in a couple of years but for now i ordered the 902b and arrives on friday so if it has issues i will just wait a few months for somehting new to come out

though i think the 902b is going to be fanstastic, it ticked all the boxes for me when viewing the display in store but we shall see when friday comes :) it was kinda close between that tv and the samsung curved but the display port is essential for me.

issues i was having was banding on vertical pans and backlight bleeding on the left and right sides of the screen most noticble in dark scenes and bleeches out colors in bright scenes
also v shapped clouding/bleed in the lower center of the screen...

issues i could not put up with.

i have been messing about with the 55ax902b and it also has issues
picture quality is better than the 802b even though the 802b was a fantastic picture quality
3d on the 902b is awesome even though its passive when using a bluray player that upscales to 4k you end up getting better 3d quality.

now the issues with this set is very bad backlight bleeding seems the bleed is in every single corner of the screen, also very bottom of the screen there is a little spiking like a bleed spike (top left hand corner is the worst out of all the corners and also that corner has a stuck red pixel in the very edge of the corner) the only way to hide most of the bleeding is having adaptive backlight set to max... but using that seems to crush some black detail though still trying to tweak that.
over all the quality is great and the sets build quality its like a tank. :)

i phoned currys know how service and they are getting the set replaced tomorrow on the spot and there going to field test it before it gets to me to make sure there is no issues with this one..
they tried to get a returns authorisation from Panasonic and they down right refused to give them it there by taking no responsibility for the issues with the set so there for currys no how warranty service took the bill on there on bat and payed for a new set for me and are going to return this one back to panasonic

the guy said the Panasonic guy on the other end wasnt no help what so ever and had a attitude problem and didnt want to help....

anyway new set arrives tomorrow *sunday* i mean how hard is it to get a perfect none issue set, its like a bloody lottery.... if this one has issues that i get when it comes and they said they where going to test it out first and if it has the same issues i will get a refund from currys and be done with it and get a big 4k 40" monitor instead.

for 3grand you would expect perfect i know i would and thats what im expecting for that price.

Did you not want to try OLED ?

to go OLED i would loose 4k.
but just for ***** and giggles if this set i get has issues tommorow then i will give the 55" OLED LG a try.

though without 4k i guess i wont be bothered about display port in for my pc i can just use a hdmi cable.

though OLED will probably be next on the list if this one turns out to be a poop.
i have to admit though upscales blurays look far better when upscaled to 4k internally. for some reason the denser pixels really help bring out he fine detail.

cant be all down to that, for some reason the display model in currys did not exibit bleeding on dark content.
i can smell cherry picked imho.

well guys.. got my 2nd 902b and this ips pannel displays the same exact issue.
very bad backlight bleed down the top right corner of the screen to the bottom right corner of the screen.

i have had it with panasonc lcd tvs.
i think the flaws im getting are due to the type of pannel technology and think that it will be almost impossible to get rid of

also a issue with these panels out of the 3 panels i have had, in vertical pan shots you can see the actual led lights going across the horizontal width of the screen
gets much worse the higher you go with the adaptive backlight setting......

my next choices are oled or pc monitor though not sure 4k monitors are up to scrach yet with there panel tech either. that also probably goes for oled.

i guess i could look for a panasonic VT50 or 60 plasma....

might just give that a try for ***** and giggles though i heard the samsung has motion issues. Also the fact it only has hdmi 2.0 for 4k input and i have a mini display port out on my r9295x2 as it only supports 1.6 hdmi with adapter......

there are no official mini display to hdmi 2.0 adapters out yet :/

Tbh i hink what ever LED LCD you buy you will notice backlight bleed, the 65AX902 i have in the store show no signs of bleed in the areas you have had, but sometimes on bright areas near dark scenes it is visible.

If you want perfect black you will need to Oled.

With a 3.1k tv you should not be getting these issues and for that price i dont want issues like these.
this is my 2nd one and if i keep getting it replaced there going to eventually stop doing it
but what do these people expect with a premium price you expect a premium product.

guess thats that then, OLED here i come.......
or i might just scrub the lot and get a 4k pc monitor instead with a better pc upgrade ;)

going into currys on thursday so i will update the thread then and let ya know what tv i have gotten this time or not or refund or pc monitor :D

**** i could get a 5k pc monitor instead if i wanted :D

Cool lets us all know how you get on with it hopefully not as problematic as the panasonic:)

Well its bloody awesome, what a dam difference.
no DSR no LED bulbs showing on panning shots. there is a green tinge but i havent calibrated it yet so that shouldnt he a issue backlight bleeding is at a minimum and cant be seen even with active dimmming enabled when watching movies :D

the display is great imho got to tweak it tonight :D

55" curved im not sure if this display is edgelit though i dont think it is cause there is no sign of backlight bleeing on the sides of the screen and very minimal to none existent in the corners of the screen.

going to be calibrating it today with color filters *pictre perfect and 709AV software. :)

i also got a samsung bd 4k upscailing drive
-------------------------------------------------------

Samsung UE55HU8500T
Samsung BDH-6500
Logitech Harmony Touch Controller
Bose Cinemate 15 - Paid £579 for this sound system and in shop it sounded amazing so i bought it lol

looking forward to playing about with these gadgets :D

yeah its like night and day..... dont get me wrong but i love panasonic big fan considering there awesome plasma`s but with LCD they are pretty poor infact its like night and day quality wise and no bleeding and no DSR and no panning up and down shots showing the led lights in the back of the screen showing through the screen....

none of these issues on my samsung curved 8500.
and the 3d performance is perfection though the glass`s that are supplied i wish they had been rechargable glass`s but there not so if you get this tv and watch a lot of 3d get some spare battries

i truly have found the tv and quality that 2k deserves. and dont get me right but the blacks on this tv are awesome thats even without enabling the dimming features and with those even better blacks look black without distoring the detail.
and also this tv is the same size as the 902b panasonic and 1k cheaper and quality is better so you have 1k in budget to get some other goodies :D

i went with a bose cinemate 15 sound setup for this tv. cant wait to test that out comes tomorrow in the post, tested out the sound in the shop i know bad enviroment but the quality was teller.

also the motion remote that comes with the tv is fantastic way better than the motion controller you get with the panasonic and did i forget to say the tv look way way better and more stylish than the planasonic.

its like a no brainer. go for it.

One other thing to remember, picture settings in shops are set to SHOP mode on the tv`s and use 100% brightness and 100% contrast in Dynamic mode to give them more punch in a very bright setting....

its night and day once you get home and calibrate it ;) i recommend you buy the PICTURE PERFECT bd disk to calibrate the contrast and brightness ;)

Football is fine, there is no DSR or banding on panning shots. *do not use FOOTBALL MODE on the tv as its pants lol all it seems to do is enable dynamic 100 brightness 100 contrast and smooth motion on max so dont use it*
4k is utterly awesome cant wait for native 4k bd`s as those will be even better.

standard sky HD movies are fantastic

there is not really any issues at all that i can point out on this tv compared to the issues i had on the panasonic its like night and day.

about the curve, the curve is not actually that bad its much less of a curve than i thought it would be and adds to a more immersion experience..

get the tv and give it a try in a home environment you i guarantee you wont be disappointed.

* side note if you go for the tv make sure you see if the promotion is still on for the UHD Drive Pack, 500gb hdd with 3 movies and demos on it if you dont like the movies you can always use it as a hdd for putting other stuff on :D lots of space free on it and if the promotion is still on you get it with the tv free. *check with currys for that*
life of pi looks sick in 4k so does world war z :D

also the tv plays 4k from netflix and amazon without any issues at all *not sure if you have any accounts though just saying they work*

Hi bose cinemate15 came today :)
sound quality is pretty great for a such a small footprint it can pack a huge punch
voice vocals are great aswell very crisp.

the only thing i dont like about it is that there is no trebble adjustment
and that you cant control the base from the remote to control the base you have to turn the knob on the back of the sub then leave it at that :D

only thing you can do with the remote is control volume and turn the system off or on though the remote is also a all in one remote that can be configured for all your devices.

For sound quality alone though its a awesome little footprint sound system
the main small sound bar has 4 independant channeled speakers inside it and the 2 on the sides bounce the sound off your walls to give you the feeling that there are speaking behind you and it all works great.....

only complains are the ones above but for audio the quality is there.

It's your money dude, as long as you're happy then that's what counts :)

yes i know i know i could have gotten a better system for the price but im not looking for a huge bulky thing with wires everywhere and speakers everywhere.

this system is for a bedroom ;)

I can only go by the set i got
both 802b and 902b where fantastic pictures but had banding/clouding, vertical light on panning shots and backlight bleed that completely crippled the set in dark scenes.

this samsung i have is in another league, no issues to report on the issues above with panasonic.

not to mention currys KNOWHOW tried to get a return authorisation from panasonc for the 902b set and they down right refused and didnt want anything to do with the set, its like once its out of there factory they want nothing more to do with it and the guy on the other end of the phone to the know how employee was down right disrespectful so they took it on there own back and bought the replacement set for me saying that they would do a field test on it before giving me it, so i recived the set and all the exact same issues i had with the previous sets where there, and it was not even tested before i got it lol

so i took it back directly to the shop and got the samsung and have been happy ever since
its a real riddle trying to get the perfect set and i can honestly say without a doult that samsung has the better build quality with there led sets compared to panasonic they just havent quite mastered it and the only reason i went with them was becuse of there plasma`s but thats where it ends with panasonc for me, i will probably try them again in 5 years to see if they have improved. i mean samsung where the first to get the led sets out then the oled sets and next the quantam dot sets they seems to be advancing far quicker than panasonic.
and + panasonic seems to be pricing there sets like 1-1.5k higher in price compared to the competition.
