Psycho Sonny, do you know if the Antec bias lighting for hdtv kit is any good/up to the job at all? http://www.antec.com/soundscience/hdtv-bias-lighting.php
yeah that's a really good kit, in hindsight i would have bought that one as it switches on and off with the TV (powered by USB), but that is due to me having too many plugs running off lots of extensions.
a downside is that it will also be on during daytime.
i mainly use my BIAS lighting at night and i have a little remote which i use to turn it on or off and increase or decrease the light, basically only 3 buttons on this tiny remote the same size as a car fob.
another downside is that you cannot dim it i think of that antec setup, say if you think it's too bright, but again i keep mine on full power anyway and never dim mine so not really something i would use, but some people do.
look at this post

show's you exactly what i'm talking about
at the end of the day it's all about having a nice spread of light around the back of the tv.
some people use bulbs and lamps, others use tubes, most use LED's either in a kit like the antec (argos sell a kit as well for cheap), or one off ebay.
a lot of people buy coloured options, but coloured light reduces PQ, it's also weird imo having say a bright green, red or blue background constantly, therefore white is the best and the closer to daylight the better.
some people spend £100's of pounds on BIAS lighting kits too, imo that is overkill, my kit cost £25 and does a brilliant job imo.
have a look at all the different solutions and just choose one which suits you, there is no wrong way to do it so long as it's a white light and a decent enough uniform spread around the back of the tv.
