Panasonic woes

Hi folks,

This is a weird one and I wonder if anyone has experienced similar issues

Have got a Panasonic TX47ET60B TV plus the BTT-290 Home Theatre system, all worked fine until I moved the BTT290, since then I have this problem...

HDMI from BTT290 to HDMI1/2 of TV = sound and no video
HDMI from BTT290 to HDMI3/4 of TV = All ok but BTT290 will not auto-switch to HDMI of the TV, it defaults to D-IN

HDMI from HTPC/Xbox/Virgin to HDMI1/2 of TV = All ok
HDMI from HTPC/Xbox/Virgin to HDMI3/4 of TV = All ok

Have tried two different HDMI 1.4 cables, connections seem secure.

The following problem doesn't relate to me moving the BTT290 at all

Both the TV & the BTT290 have the Netflix App, in fact the BTT290 actually has a Netflix button on the remote, so you would imagine there is full Netflix Support, right?

If I use the Netflix App on the TV or the BTT290, I get no sound via the BTT290, I can only get audio from the TV Speakers :(

Both TV & BTT290 are upto date with firmware.

Anyone else come across this before?

Have you tried disabling CEC (Vieralink) on both devices? Give that a whirl. Restart. And when you get picture and sound together, then re-enable Vieralink.

yep tried that to no avail.

However I did find other units with similar problems on google, apparently if you disable deep colour through the BTT290, it sorts out the Netflix Audio problem. Tried it yesterday and hey presto, audio works.

That's interesting. Thanks for the feedback.

Incidentally, switching off Deep Colour is no loss. If correctly implemented then it should never be active with any video source anyway.

Deep Colour is the ability to render more than 8 bit colour. It's a feature of HDMI that isn't yet supported in the industry. There are no movies or TV programs made that use it. The one potential area where Deep Colour could have been implemented is in games. But AFAIK, none of the major games producers have taken it seriously enough to produce a dual format game to make use of the feature.

If implemented incorrectly, Deep Colour messes up the colour mapping from the movie or external source to the display. Colours get shifted so the rendition becomes less accurate. The same is true of the extended colour gamut features.

A quick update for you all :)

I had the TV's A board replaced, made no difference so the Panasonic Auth'd Repair Co took away the BTT290. Turns out it needs a new Digital PCB, that Panasonic no longer produce or supply.

Which is odd because it's a 2012 model. Awaiting feedback from the repair company on what happens next, since it was still in warranty when I reported the fault, I'd expect an replacement unit of similar spec.
