Panasonics new IPS display to rival OLED

Really hope Panasonic can pull it off, all well and good pushing OLED for the high end but would like another offering in the mid to low end

Panasonic are certainly capable of doing decent electronics (their '16 OLED was reportedly better than LG's released model on the same panel), lets see if they can produce a good panel now

An LCD TV can never rival an OLED in terms of black level performance, the LCD requires a backlight and a closed LCD pixel will always let through some light even when switched off, people mention local dimming zones but unless its has 8.5million dimming zones like an Oled it just ain't going to cut it

Apparently that's what this new panel claims to do.

Typical response from an OLED groupie. No other technology could possibly ever rival OLED

I ended up with a Samsung KS8000... although I'm still thinking about selling it and buying a B or E series LG OLED with a large VAT rebate that's coming in a couple of weeks.

Still not sure what to do... might just buy the OLED and live with it for a week before I decide which one to keep.

When I was looking at them in store environment... I find the Samsung has better overall image clarity - where the OLED appears a little fuzzy around the edges... even though the black levels on the OLED are that bit better.

The Samsung has really impressed me with how dark an LCD panel can go while retaining shadow detail.

It was an insurance replacement... they first tried to offer me the top-tier Panasonic LCD and looking at it in the store, even though the reviews are really good... I thought it looked really washed out and grey... I checked it out in a second shop too to make sure there wasn't an issue with the first or perhaps it was setup wrong... but I got the same impression.

I also saw very noticeable stuttering on panning shots and that drives me nuts... they used to be one of the best when it came to that - my GT30 plasma was great in that regard.

Panny made some great plasmas following Pioneer leaving the game... but their current LCD range is a really poor show. The Sony's are noticeably better but a little on the cold on the colour scheme for my taste.

Very happy with the Samsung... not sure if the OLED is worth the extra.

First time I saw HDR was in John Lewis.

They had a Samsung 65" KS8000 and an LG OLED 65 E6V.

I said to my friends at the time that they both looked great and that the HDR looked more impressive on the KS8000 and I couldn't see why the E6V was £2500 more than the KS8000 and that was that.

Fast foward a few months and after some extensive research and demoing both in more normal conditions the OLED is the clear winner. Standard dynamic range stuff (which lets be honest is the majority of content for now) is better on the OLED, there's no clouding or uneven backlight issues that you can notice more in a darker environment whilst watching a KS8000 and though the HDR isn't quite as good due to peak brightness restriction, the OLED HDR still looks fantastic.

Plus I managed to get a 65 B6V for just £450 more than the KS8000 so it was a bit of a no-brainer.

The icing on the cake is that LG are releasing a firmware update to add a 'GAME' mode to HDR that brings down input lag during HDR gaming to a very respectable 34-36ms. Far better than the 50-67ms input lag from the original reviews.

Will be interesting to compare... I think I'm going to order one and make my mind up before the return window closes after having it for a week in normal conditions... then if I decide to keep the OLED, I can sell the KS8000
