My Dog has developed what the Vet is calling Pannus, in her eyes. Now, I'm pretty worried as we've been given a steroid treatement, which needs to be given 3 times a day. Possibly for the rest of her life. We've also been told that there's a possibility that she may go blind, at some point.

I can't imagine how horrible it would be to see my Dog go blind. What kind of life is that for a dog? I imagine it's also going to be costly to keep purchasing medicine for the rest of her life.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks!

I don't even want to be thinking about that at this stage.

I was really just hoping to see if anyone has a Dog with this disorder, and how they cope with it? If it gets better, or any other information.

Is she blind yet? Is she in any pain?

If not, there's no need to put her down. Surely your vet will advise you on euthanasia if they think you should.

Obviously care for her and keep her happy and see how it goes. :)

I know a staffie that is blind, and she manages to cope absolutley fine, she still can be walked off the lead and enjoys playing with other dogs. Because they loose their sight means their smell and hearing gets 10 times better and they cope really well, just as they would have to if they were wild. If i were you i would see how she copes with the whole ordeal because more than likley she will be fine. I dont know much about the disorder however, how does this affect the dog or is it mereley them going blind?

It sounds like you've made your mind up. Your only practical option is to have her put down.

Not completely true, my lovely doggie, a springer cross lab is getting on for about 9 or 10 now, and she is blind in her right eye...and loves running round the house and trying to cut corners...as she can't see round it...it must not be there...THUMP! :D

She's great though, he had a lump removed from her underside a few months back, so she's probably going on her way :( But she doesn't appear to be in any pain, still runs around like a nutcase, and is prettymuch the same dog as she's always been. :)

Not going to help much when they sprint into a tree.
