Paolo Di Canio Has been sacked!

Definitely a character but was never going to do anything for a Premiership team.

Wrong transfers (in's & out's), a total mess it is up there. I do have some sympathy for the fans, and what he did the weekend on the pitch was totally him and was surprised no-one ran up to him or something.

I'm not surprised they've started badly but when they got rid of Sessegnon then you know somethings wrong.

Was it a shocker he scored for Albion? No, and nothing like giving the finger to your old gaffer eh.

Appointing Di Canio was always going to end badly, and I don't think it's a great surprise that he's been sacked. A player revolt was only a matter of time.

I feel sorry for whoever takes the job. Di Canio spent £20m or so on 14 new players, so the new manager isn't going to have much money to play with. He's not going to be able to build a squad of his own. He'll just be stuck with a large group of distinctly average players.

As a Newcastle fan I am, of course, finding this all very enjoyable.

As far as I understand, the transfers weren't really his focus, he simply told the DOF the type of players he wanted and accepted the role of Head Coach as opposed to a traditional Manager position.

I have to say though that he is significantly overrated. His time at Swindon was ok, seeing as the budget he had was so incredibly large in League Two that it was 5 x that of other teams in the division. But at the same time, he certainly harmed the club and it's reputation whilst he was there. His row with Leon Clarke was embarrassing, and he marginalised some of their best players in Cuthbert and Ferry. Then, when it turned out he'd overspent on his huge budget and the club were put under an embargo, he threw his toys out of the pram, argued with everyone at the club and subsequently quit.

Those aren't the attributes a Premiership manager should possess. I hope they pick up a strong, focused and respectful manager with a bit of Premier League experience who is on an upward trajectory in their career, and can lead from the front.

Last name :D Worth a cheeky fiver?

Wasn't a good appointment in the first place. What on earth was he doing Saturday standing up to the fans. Disgusting behavior.

I don't know about being a good or bad appointment because there is always a risk when appointing a manager.

I think there is more of a risk appointing a largely inexperienced manager (previous playing experience is largely irrelevant), but with Di Canio I got the feeling Sunderland were going to go one of two ways; They were either going to be brilliant and a real revelation under him or they would be terrible. There wouldn't have been a middle ground.

I personally feel his management style is out dated, irrelevant of what he does on the pitch tactically. The large number of players moving in and out of the club must have had an effect too.

Also; he didn't 'save' them from relegation, Sunderland were terrible at the end of the season & Di Canio showed no signs of an immediate improvement however the summer is always a time of hope and positivity around football clubs.

I don't think it was working at Sunderland, I'm not in favour of sacking managers in a knee jerk reaction or before they've been given a fair amount of time, but this is all relative.

I don't know where Di Canio goes from here; this is all without mentioning his personal life.

Sunderland were the 4th lowest club in net spend this summer, Also he works with a director of football so all of the signing would have been down to the director, he wouldn't have had much say in who he wants.

His management style is definitely out dated he will probably learn from this and realise he has to change his man management because players dont like it and they ultimately got him sacked when the board found out there was another bust up that day.

The players aren't good enough, the manager inexperienced deep down i had a feeling he wouldn't last long at Sunderland i did want him to succeed though.

Poyet has done well with Brighton but do Sunderland have the quality to stay up? Di Canio made a lot of squad changes during the summer.

It seems like a bit of a gamble, are they going to replace him at christmas if he doesn't hit the ground running for someone with actual Premier League/relegation battle experience?

Now official, they've replaced one idiot with another. Should be some sort of improvement though you'd think.

2 year contract... Great show of faith. Don't think he'll do any better than Di Canio would have done. By that I mean keeping them in the Premier League.

I think he will do well. His problem was always that he was trying to play Premiership football in the Championship, well now he has the chance to play it where it is more appropriate. A relegation battle will suit him tbh.

Incredible that Charlie Oatway has gone there as well. He must think all of his Christmases have come at once!...can't see him getting away with some of the stuff he did down here at Sunderland though
