Right i need to address this issue its realy bugging me. but was it normal for kids to do paper rounds when they were 14-16?

i know i deffinatly did one my dad did my uncle did and so it goes on.

now if you mention to children do a paper round to earn money they look at you as if you asked them to lik salt off a razor blade. whats is the issue.

Coments anyone?

I'm 17 and I'm doing a paper round until I can find better employment that will fit around college. The main problem is lots of kids on their high horse who think that a paper round is below them. My paper round takes 20 minutes a day and finishes at my next door neighbours, and it gets me an easy £11 a week.

20 minutes a day for £11 is why kids do it. Not 17 year olds though. Get yourself on a building site labouring on Saturdays.

I'll tell you the problem - bone bloody idleness!!

Kids seem to think that almost any form of "improper" employment is below their dignity! Even turn their noses up at a bit of burger flipping on the side for some extra cash, and also to get their foot in the door for that ultimate promotion of team leader!

I started work at 15 in Texas stacking shelves all those years ago. In those days it was either work for your keep or suffer from having jack-**** for the immediate time frame, and a good slapping from dad if I turned my nose up. How many of the hoodied, bone-idle ******* of today do you see working? None.

Mind you there are some young 'uns who still choose to work, and good on them, but there are a hell of a lot who don't.

£11 quid !!

I done it ONCE, I had to do probably about a 100 papers(seemed like loads more when I think about it, could have been) papers, and what did I get.... £5.50!!! pay packet the following week.

it took me about 2.5 - 3 hours !!!

and this wasnt in the 1980's or something.... its was in 2006, when i was 16.

was the first and last time I ever do that. Can shove their £5.50

Didn't do a paper round but I worked in a greengrocers when I was 14-16.

Was very pleased when once christmas my boss broke his arm, so I had tons more extra shifts to do. When payday came around he gave me a nice load of cash then doubled it because he said without me he couldn't of opened the shop by himself :)

I did one when I was 15 but i sucked. Got about £7 on a good week for delivering about 150 free papers to the houses on my estate. I can understand why people don't want to do it for that amount of money. But yes it is also down to lazyness.

My round took around half an hour a day, and about an hour on Saturdays / Sundays - so around £3.78 per hour :p

As people have said, they think having a paper round is below them. And it's true to me, i'm 16 and wouldn't dare get a paper round as it's deemed 'scruffy' nowadays. You only see the super poor 50year old men with paper rounds where I live. I work with my uncle ripping out bathrooms every now and then for £30 a day and I get £20 a week off my dad.

I got £5.50 a week for 18 papers a day. Took no more than 10 mins.

Well I only do about 17 papers too, most of which are on the same street. So I guess I am quite lucky with my round.

And as for the guy further up telling me to get on a builders yard on a Saturday, you obviously have absolutely no idea how hard it is to find part time work now below 18, especially in the summer holidays where almost every other student is trying to do the same. This month I have handed out around 20 CV's and about 8 application forms, so please don't try and imply that I'm not trying, because that's the feeling I got from your post.

100 papers is about 3 bags. really full bags at that, more likely to be 4.
