In my experience there doesn't seem to be a lot of corellation between the hardware and the speed of a PAR2 recovery. I've had parity sets with a single missing block take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes to recover. This suggests that the location of the missing block or the block size are bigger factors than the speed of the hardware.
