Hi I am writing a essay and when I want to do what I think is a line break when talking about something I press the return/Enter button but it starts a hole new paragraph which isnt what I want to do, as the gap is to large. - Any ideas on how I can resolve this ?

Also how do I do Page headings so ever new page will say my name and the new page number ie

Jamie campbell P1

Jamie campbell P2

etc :)

Hold shift, and then press enter at the same time?
For the second question, edit the header. There's a button somewhere, that'll automatically insert the page numbers in to the header as well.

I think you should start a whole new paragraph - line breaks within paragraphs aren't right. You might want to check the line spacing options of your word processor (it would be helpful to know which one you are using btw).

You need to look at the Header and Footer of your document. If you write "Jamie Campbell" in the document header it will appear on every page. In the footer you'll need to insert a field, then select the page number field.

Your first problem sounds like a spacing issue so select the no spacing option from the options. If you're using Word 2007/10 then it'll be on the Home ribbon.

Your second issue is inserting a header although normally I'd suggest a footer for such things, you just need to select to auto page number and put in whatever text alongside it in the footer you want.

//edit shift and enter will work as above for the spacing issue but I don't know if it repeats while selecting the correct spacing option will do so until you change it.

If you use Word 2010/07 then don't worry about formating until the end. If you use headings etc correctly you can apply whatever style you want to the document at the end of it. Not sure why you would not want a new paragraph when you hit the enter key, surely that is the point of it?
