I am at the stage thinking of getting a macbook.....

I am currently a XP user but love to try OS X too. As the Macbook can have both I am wondering which best Parallel or Bootcamp. I know the difference like Parallel I can us XP while booted in OS x and Bootcamp I can only use which ever i have booted.

My biggest thing is emails. If I was in OS X and checked my mail I would still like them to appear in XP too is this possible? Also Would I be able to cross use my Office 2003 for windows with the OS X or would have to buy a Mac version.

Dont fancy spending a lot....

What is better on OS X than Vista or XP
 
Parallels sounds best for you, you can just keep your VM open with MS Office in it. You'd need to buy Office 2003 for Mac otherwise, or use a product like Crossover Office (now just Crossover Mac I think - this allows you to run Windows apps in OS X itself). As for emails, you could simply tell your mail clients to leave the emails on the server, then set one of them (e.g; outlook) to delete the mails from server after 5 days. Sorted :)
 
Cheers for that sounds very interesting and very tempted to go down the macbook route....

But what is better on a Macbook than a normal laptop. apart from the OS X??? Also what is better on OS X than xp or vista

You could setup your e-mail account on Mail in OS X and Outlook in XP. :confused:

The latest version of Parallels allows to boot up Windows for specific programs and keep them on your dock. It's called coherence mode.

It just works, no need for the moment at least to mess around with anti-virus and spyware programs. Plus it does not crash as often as Windows OS'.

Build quality, easily upgradable, looks great, built in iSight webcam etc.

I think what will is coming from:

MacBook's RAM and HDD can be easily upgraded, basically "open, replace, done."

Laptops are generally very "upgrade friendly" at all. MacBooks too.

It's all up to preference, but the main thing that sold me to a Mac is OS X. Nothing to be overzealous about but OS X is, in my opinion, better than Windows.

Very subjective. You'll have to try it for good before you decide to be honest.
 
I know about the try but cant get to try one long enough know what i mean. also just read that Mac bringing out a new OS maybe I should wait? Or is upgrade free or what price?
 
Apple should be bringing out 10.5 at least by the end of Spring, March at the earliest. Depends on how badly you want the Macbook, the price with a student discount would be about £60, not sure what kind of discount you would get with recently bought hardware.

If you've got an NUS Card or access the HE store from your College/Universities network you can get a discount.

Photography stuff I believe (can only partly say from experience). Its also got so many more apps to make your own home stuff; iLife, garageband, .Mac stuff. I personally just love the integration between applications that is so prevalent on OS X.
I also find that I'm more productive on a Mac, mainly due to expose :eek:
It may sound silly but it really does help with loads of windows open etc.
Vista has tried to do the same with Windows + Tab key, but its crap tbh. With loads of windows open you cant actually see whats in one of them (as its at the back, behind all the others).

Vista actually has something exactly the same as expose hiding behind the scenes, but you only get to see it if you install the Vista version of Intellipoint :)
