I sent a parcel on Tuesday just after midday via Royal Mail's 1st class recorded delivery service, which is supposed to arrive next day, or possibly the day after.

However, it has still not arrived, and wondered what the likelihood is that it will still be delivered?

Tracking says this:

Item ************* was posted at Octagon Centre DE14 3QJ on 28/06/11 and is being progressed through our network for delivery.

Still possible. You could try calling the delivery office at the area of delivery. Maybe the recipient was out and the system hasn't updated for some reason.

it may have got lost

or the postman has failed to get a signature for it and failed to take the tracking number of the parcel

was it an ebay item

Often royal fails tracking website does not update when it has been delivered, you should check with the recipient.

Where was it sent to? It's not unheard of for recorded delivery to take 4 or so days when parcels are sent to places like the Highlands.

The parcel was sent to somewhere in Essex and the recipient claims to have not received it. He has been at home, and he has had nothing through the door. He also rang up his local sorting office and apparently nothing is waiting for him.

Well if the above is true then its taking a while or is lost. You have to wait 15 days before a claim.

I've had 'signed for 1st class' take over a week. While from the same company it normally comes next day. Like the above poster said it could be still coming or lost and you need to wait 15 days to claim. Signed for isn't next day, that is only for special delivery.

The SSD I sold on the MM. :(

The only problem is that I was hoping to have the money in time for my holiday also.

you can also phone royal mail customer services who will then give full details where your item is

you will find that royal mail tracking services are not always up to date sometimes it can take weeks or months online all becouse some nice royal mail worker forgot to update the system.

i know this i had it done four times on me phone customer services

You should really have sent it special delivery with that sort of value, especially as it appears you sent the item before recieving payment :(

Yeah standard services only covers up to £41. Special delivery or standard parcels should be used for these items, or a courier.
