Parental Leave

Haha, yeah I read something which said they couldn't. Maybe that's just when it's subsidised by the Gov.

Edited my post before I saw yours.

I will probably be sending them to Nursery ASAP in that case.

Around here babies can go to nursery from 6 weeks ()

Good on you I did the same. Took some downsizing and some big decisions on whether we would take the hit financially but definitely worth it and I've never regretted it for a moment. It also enabled me to take a step back from work and decide whether I wanted to go back - I didn't - and set me on the path to starting my own businesses.

My wife is pregnant at the mo, early stages though. We have discussed splitting the parental leave, 3 months her, 3 months me. I think it could be good, but there hasn't been a precedent in my office. Not sure how it would go down. How very new-age!

I wouldn't spilt the parental leave because personally I don't like babies (I tolerated my own) - it's when they get out of nappies that the fun of parenting really begins imho. I didn't retire and become a house husband until my youngest was nearly 3.

I didn't go to quite that extent, but when my wife returned to work after maternity leave, I dropped to 4 days a week, and had 1 day looking after my daughter.

Did that for 2 years, and it was an excellent experience to have.

Hello, lovelies!

Back in 2010 I took 6 months non-paid parental leave from work and spent time with my then youngest one to become the primary care giver. I became the stay at home dad and my wife remained the main breadwinner. My work were very cool with this which definitely helped.

My daughter was 7 months old at the time so I saw her go through a lot of stages day to day and it was a pretty magical time, but also a challenging time for me, our daughter and my wife. It's hard work.

Long story short, we're about to do the same with our newest arrival and I can't wait. I hand over in 3 weeks and then come back in November of this year, having mopped up nappies and seen the smiles and tears, but missed out on my team's progression, and with potentially a different view of what a picture can look like, and have to make sense of all of those things.

Exciting, isn't it?

I would love to do this, I recently became an uncle (~4 months old) and I'm absolutely loving spending time with the small human. I would absolutely love to do this if and when I have children if it was at all possible.

Will look forward to seeing more of your (virtual) face around :).

Oh, and congratulations on your sperm working and congratulations to your wife for doing all the tough part ha.

Nice of your company to do this, I have put my career on hold and work evenings and weekends in a job with little prospects all just to look after my children and get to see all their firsts, have a large say in the building of their personality and education and generally get time to spend with them, I consider myself lucky.
