There's been some red hot athletics the last few months, I can't wait for this. :D

But I'm absolutely gutted that Katie Archibald is out injured. :(

Her smashing the madison with Laura Kenny was one of the best moments of Tokyo. :cool:

BBC have the same gimped coverage as Tokyo so you'll need discovery or eurosport (I think).

Most of the stuff I like watching will probably require Discovery+ (weight lifting and wrasslin') but they are offering a special £3.99/month price so that's very good. But I'm really annoyed that there's no UHD coverage (unless you're watching Eurosport on Sky/Virgin) which is pathetic. They've gone down the same route as UEFA did with the Euro's - 1080p HDR only for BBC iPlayer and Discovery+.

yes bbc will be as bad as last time - searching through iplayer videos looking for what you want.
preparations are impressive, can't believe beyoncee will be involved in opening (cultural heresy) even if the olympic song sounds like irena kara dancing on the ceiling;

Open swimmers must be on a course of antibiotics in preparation for their swim.
why is Murray there though - taking someone elses place

France is mobilizing nearly three times as many security personnel as the number deployed for the London Olympics, the last one held in Europe.
....
The banks of the Seine were sealed off to the public a week ahead of the ceremony. During the event, police will be stationed every 6 feet or so along the river, said Loïc Walder, a spokesman for UNSA, one of France’s largest police unions. Authorities are clearing homeless encampments that dot the river banks and moving people into temporary housing.
The French military will close off surrounding airspace during the opening ceremony and deploy antidrone squads throughout the Games.
The government also is unspooling a massive dragnet to shield the Games from potential terrorists and saboteurs. Police have sent administrative orders forbidding people deemed a security risk from coming near Olympics events, interior ministry officials said. They are conducting more than one million background checks of people living around and working in restricted areas related to the Games.

Olympics that's a bit ominous

I'm going to need a discovery license to see some of the obscure stuff from olympics (like climbing), and a bbc license probably wouldn't matter;
discovery that was free with Sky, had already had better organised catchup videos, than bbc, with last olympics

because Discovery has the rights to show most of it in this country so the BBC's promotion will be far smaller given they are now only showing a very small part of it.

There’s a lot of drama around the Olympics this time round.

Horse rider beating horse.

Paedophile let out of prison early to represent his country.

Gang rape in Paris.

What’s next?

upping the game - everyone has to be squeaky clean
Adidas has apologised to the model Bella Hadid after pulling adverts in which she was promoting a sport shoe first launched to coincide with the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Adidas last week said it was “revising” its campaign after criticism from Israel over Hadid’s involvement in the campaign for the retro SL72 trainers. Hadid is an American whose family has roots in Palestine.

don't think you'd care if you are doing the surfing , though.

First football match delayed by almost 2 hrs due to crowd trouble. Less than 2 years after France failed to control the champs league final. Think in the exact same stadium.

good omega tv advert https://youtu.be/Th7lxTBg96c compared to diverse bbc effort
so airbnb is a sponsor ... despite being thrown out of spanish cities - it's all good (starmer hasn't made any comment on them)

Canadian womens football team drone spying on the tactics of their opposition - is there really that much you could exploit - were they concerned about that for euros.
