Lets create a hypothetical situation here with the aid of MS paint!

Much of it is self explanatory but the light yellow bit is, for the sake of arguement, an empty paved area and the brown bit is the wall of a building. The paved bit is owned by the owner of the building. There are no signs or restrictions other than the double yellow lines.

Would one expected to receive a ticket from the local council for parking on the paved bit?

There is, of course, no truth whatsoever in the rumour that this is a rarely used road near a University, or the terrible lies that the building in question is also owned by the Uni, or that it's opposite a lecture theatre or anything like that.

So opinions? Would you park there?

Just because there's double yellow lines doesn't entitle people to think "sod it, i'll just park on the pavement 1ft across from the lines".

Thats the most ridiculous thing i've heard.

I would probably park there if there wasn't a proper car park nearby because I'm scared Mr Warden would give me a ticket :p

If it's not on the road's then I would have assumed a PW wouldn't be able to give you a ticket.

Just out the front of my home there is some space for two cars to park next to the garages, outside of the DYL. Haven't seen anyone get a ticket before when they've been outside of the DYL.

It's not the pavement. It's seperate.

It would be, had that been what I said. However, it wasn't.

Ok, so theres a dropped kerb to gain access to the "paved" area then?

If my experience from birmingham uni is anything to go by parking restrictions mean nothing on campus. So yes I'd park there.

And if I received a ticket for doing so, I would claim it was not on the car so I never got it, and blame some tax dodging, unwashed, debt-ridden, drunken rapscallion students for removing it. Having first checked I was not likely to have been on camera swearing and kicking street furniture shortly after removing said ticket.

If the paved bit is owned by the owner of the building then I think you can park there (with their permission)

I doubt I'll risk it, I'm just exploring potential parking opportunities.

Parking at Uni has got worse and worse over the last few years. It used to be dead easy, infact the whole road outside the main lecture theatre I use was free on street parking. Really handy.

Then the council stuck parking metres all around the area at £1.10 an hour. Becuase yea, £10 a day parking is great.

im not sure to be honest

on my way to work i drive past one of the new business parks on the way to leeds. Its occupied by ventura, and there obviously isnt enough parking available. As the roads all outside the place are full of people parking like this. Parking on the verge and not on the road

you see it at football games too. They wont park on the double yellow lines, but will park on the verges to the side of the footpaths

ive never seen any of them get clamped / ticketed.

afaik if its off the road, and pavement, then its the landowners responsibility. Your tresspassing, not illegally parked

I wouldn't ever be happy parking it on grass, that really gets my goat becuase it trashes the local surroundings which is a shame and a tad selfish.

Wait for other people to park there first and see if they get any tickets ;)

Someones been parking a Mondeo Mk1 there without issue.

But its me, I'm the guy who gets nicked for 80 on a dual carriageway, so I'll get done :p
