parking on street - neighbours say we shouldn't

LOL.:D

Not entirely sure on the rules for that one. A proper bus company needs to have off-road parking with planning permission. Dumping them on residential streets will swiftly see their operators license revoked.

As others have already pointed out, it's illegal to block them in. Seems if you park on someone else's drive, you have that someone else wrapped up in a neat little bow - they can't touch your car, and they can't block you in :D

Although they might realise that their driveway is a bit dirty and requires an urgent clean with some very strong solvents

Only an issue if it's done by a bus company. If it's a privately owned vehicle then there's no op-li to worry about.

Yeah, understand that - it's implied as you'd need a company to get the operators license! Question is whether the council have some other bit of legislation to fall back on to stop buses parking on residential streets.

Its almost always either a covenant as part of development (developers tend to lose any care once they move on but what the estate to look nice whilst they are still trying to sell houses) or occasionally a local bylaw regarding no parking of commercial vehicles

Whilst a few are clear, such as a HGV cab there is no agreed or defined definition of commercial vehicle.
Eg is a LWB transit a commercial, is a car based van a commercial, is a company car a commercial, all can be argued into both yes and no.

Some people try to apply signage but thats a terrible test, so a no signed LWb transit (white van in effect) wouldnt be commercial and a signed up car would be (such as estate agents car)
