parking outside someone else's house - what would jesus (or you) do

White van parked outside mine right now. My car is parked on the other side of the road. There is no prohlem. You too can be this carefree.

Your cat looks livid!

Over here in birmingham people are so petty regarding people parking outside someone's house that they have resorted to putting cones outside so no one can park their ...

There is the more interesting and subtle theory that the reason he doesn't park outside his own abode is that he doesn't want people to know he is in. [e.g. tedious friends or family members who habitually just knock on your door unannounced ]

I used to do that myself.

More like he don't park it outside his own house due to he don't want a crappy big van parked right outside his house...

I would not give a toss op.
If I wanted my car outside my house I'd convert my front garden to be a carpark and pay the council to drop the kerb.

My neighbour has done this and has room for 3 big German SUVs with room to spare on his drive, still tries to tell me I'm not allowed to park outside his house.

this tbh.. I wouldn't want a white van in front of my house

I guess if he doesn't either then the **** move is to dump it in front of someone else's house - sorry OP :D

as for "there is nothing you can do"

you could have a polite world with him, doesn't have to be confrontational but I guess if you have a small front garden or something and it is constantly blocking say the light to your front room then it could be quite reasonable to ask that he doesn't always leave it there - be accommodating though, he probably does need to park somewhere nearby and so might end up there from time to time, perhaps he can't get a space on his road

the other thing you can do is occupy the space yourself.. park your car there for a bit - if it is his regular space he'll find another

if there is a general issue with too many vehicles parking on your road there are a couple of options you have via the local authorities - one option is to get parking permits issues (though if he lives in a neighbouring street and it has regs implemented at the same time then he might end up with a permit valid for your street too) councils love this stuff as it gets them a bit of revenue too

lastly, if you're in an area where you and the neighbours can all park on your drives easily then you could ask the council to put down double yellow lines - my mum had this done on her road (though she opted not to have them extend up the road as far as her house when the council asked) - basically the bottom of her road is close to the station so lots of people dumped cars on the road whereas the residents all parked their cars on their drives... so now half the road has yellow lines on one side (and both sides closer to the station)

firstly I know my neighbors, both guys across the road have vans. We all park where we can, it seems most people try and park in front of their own place but its busy and far from happens all the time

This is a van not from the near vicinity that exclusively parks outside mine and I worry is bringing unwanted attention to my house ie. looking for tools in the garage ect.

I put it to you dl8860, would you mind if that van was there permanently and didnt belong to anyone around you?

Don't get me wrong I'm not riled up or spoiling for war but its getting a bit annoying

If you think a vehicle has tools in it the most logical place to look for tools would be in the van If someone had tried to brake into his van and failed he'd have known about it I'm sure and most likely would have thought, you know what maybe I should park this closer to home to be safe so I can see/hear the van if it's broken into. As he hasn't, I imagine it's just your garage that's been attempted to brake into and just a coincidence a van is near by.

I'm willing to bet the guy has a faulty alarm that goes off at 2am some times so has sensibly parked it away from home so he's not woken up by it. Smart guy
