parking ticket - not sure if it's unfair, need some advice

I know of lots of places that are Disabled bays that have nothing on the road to say so, just a sign.

By all means contest, it doesnt take much after all, but dont be surprised if you dont win.

I would contest it - the sign on the railings could easily just be for the one bay...

Make sure you get clear photos showing that the bay doesn't have a sign and lacks proper markings and emphasise that point.

Was there a sign on the railing where in the bay to the left where you parked? If not then it sort of looks like they painted the bay but put the sign up in front of the wrong bay.

there was no sign on the rail in front of the disabled bay on the left, that's why we debated it would be ok....

will contest it

thanks guys

From the section 'Signs and Markings in Off-Street Parks'

The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, 1994. SI No. 1519, HMSO, £24.50p Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

Bays should be marked with yellow lines and a yellow wheelchair symbol within the space. Access areas between parking bays should be hatched in yellow (Figure 4).

To aid compliance, confirmatory signs should be displayed on adjacent walls or on posts erected specifically for the purpose. Such signs are not classed as traffic signs and need not therefore comply with TSRGD.

Signs inside the car park should indicate the most convenient way to the main civic, business, shopping and recreational areas. Approximate distances should also be shown.

To me, that says the bay should be marked with yellow lines and a yellow wheelchair symbol to make it a valid disabled space The sign is additional and does not indicate that it's a designated disabled space on it's own.

manchester traffic wardens seem to make rules up regarding both disabled bays and people parking with a blue badge as and when it pleases them, from people who've appealed after parking in front of my pub they are usually successful, a lot of tickets in manchester are given out without due cause.
