Hi all, so im looking at replacing my car with something else. Found a car I like from place called parkway motor group in mansfield. Now I have put deposit down and will be going to see the car this Saturday.

However after going through the net and checking people review has sort of turned me off now from this dealer.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these guys? They seem to sell a lot of performance cars.

What are you buying? Is it a good price? Do you have confidence when looking through service history and assessing a car’s condition?

If you’re buying something a bit special, see if you can get it professionally inspected prior to purchase.

You’re buying the car, not the dealership. If something doesn’t add up, just walk.

So you've put a deposit on a car you won't have seen before Saturday and then do a quick check on the company, hmmm.

The problem is looking on the internet, not many people go out of their way to post positive comments but if something just isn't quite right they'll fire up the laptop and go full rant mode immediately, I would always take what people post on the 'net with a pinch of salt as you are only getting one side of the story.

Do you live in Mansfield? Have any friends/relatives bought from them and what was their experience?

Putting a deposit down to secure a car without seeing it seems like the norm currently. Seems silly to me, but I presume it’s a small refundable holding deposit rather than a 20% job (I hope!). Every dealer that we phoned when buying our second hand Sportage kept banging on about a holding deposit. I guess it means the punters actually turn up for a test drive.

Not in my experience, having just bought a 2nd hand Focus and getting the wife a 1 series the only time a deposit was mentioned was when she saw one that was in Hull and they'd have to get it shipped over (turns out they'd sold it while we were still 'negotiating').

So long as it’s refundable, where’s the problem?
I put a deposit on my e38 to secure it whilst on holiday in Cyprus, to be fair it was a good week before I returned to see it and the dealer wanted £1k to show I was serious, he gladly emailed me to confirm in writing the deposit was fully refundable if I wasn’t happy with the car.

Prior to putting a deposit on my car the first thing I did was scour the internet for reviews of the dealer and found nothing but positive reviews and praise of them yes, a specialist classic dealer rather than a run of the mill car dealer but it shows that people will pay credit where it’s due.

I have indeed put deposit down but now getting refund as i'm not going go see it after getting some feedback from couple people experience with dealer. I do indeed take things i find on internet with pinch of salt but i honestly went with my doubts and guts and cancelled it. I was going ask guy if he can take some photos of the service history and other documents to make bit of judgement before cancelling and doing the 65 mile trip and maybe end up buying another lemon. I did long trip to get my peugeot(95 miles) and after 6 months it has turned into right lemon.
So now i'm going wait a bit and see if any other pop up bit closer to me and at right price, my friend thinks it way to steep.
It is a Mazda 3 MPS 2011 in white which are rare but my friend who owned one don't think its worth that money seeing there are others in different colour thats between 6-10k.
Appreciate everyone feedback though.

I did the same with my 911 as they seem to sell incredibly quickly. For a run of the mill car I don’t see the point.

Fox - I had loads of dealers who seemed almost offended that I had the nerve to negotiate. For them to try to add admin charges on top of the sticker price was the icing on the cake for me!

11k? Wow.

Get onto the MPS owners club on Facebook.

Few up for sale at around 8k. All owned by serious owners who look after them. Also I would try and get one that's had the basic mods done. Such as HPFP and an intake. Good chance those come with a COBB v3 or versatuner too which costs the best part of £500.

I live about 10 minutes away, would have happily gone & had a poke around it for you on Sunday (unless the wife has other plans!)
