Part of a SpaceX rocket washes up on Scilly

I would be auctioning this off asap, to highest bidder let them realise they have a worthless piece of metal.
Bit of the titanic sold for like £10k, and that's the most famous ship ever!!

I'll take it off your hands @tres, If you don't need it on the islands, or it could be a nice feature for the Valhala collection :)

Except it's not is it. It's a collectors item. Plenty of people will want it, which gives it value.

Yeah but value will go up based on the amount of people that will A-want it and B-afford it. I'd say plenty is an over exaggeration. Maybe Elon might.

Scrap plus a bit more and your sold.

A line from an article on NASA satellites would suggest it's still Spacex's

"
Finders not keepers
"Because this is a U.S. government satellite, any object that does reach the surface of the Earth, should it be found, is still the property of the United States," said Nick Johnson, chief scientist of NASA's Orbital Debris Program Office at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. "You do not have the luxury of trying to sell it on eBay
If debris rains down outside the country, or splashes down in the ocean and later washes ashore on foreign soil, then the United Nations' Outer Space Treaty could still offer the U.S. the option of requesting the debris to be returned. Any of the 100 nations that are party to the 1967 convention would be required to comply, though the U.S. would be responsible for any transportation costs.

So presumably space X Will be facing some very serious environmental fines/questions about dumping.

The paints and sealants and other things used in this stuff is quite toxic and can't just be dumped in the sea or landfill ed.

So if they've been saying it burns up and it doesn't this could be a big issue

I doubt anyone on here knows. However it's not like normal salvage stuff, as it wasn't lost. It was purposely discarded.

Yes you could sell it. There is a piece of the MV Cita, a cargo ship that went down of scilly and it's spare propeller is outside a hotel on scilly.
