Hi all, i have chrismas tree'd a couple of older machines to give a friend a taste of PC gaming and he's now sold on moving across.

The PC is currently an AMD Opteron 2.2Ghz with 8Gb RAM a 250Gb mech sata HDD and a GTX 480, there is also a spare GTX 480 to SLI into the new build.

I expect to keep the 480's, HDD, Optical drive, peripherals and OS but the rest needs a little refresh including a new case.

He would like an SSD if the budget can stretch but a 128Gb will do as its just gaming on BF3/4, other than that a mobo chip new RAM (old stuff is DDR2 i think) case and PSU.

If you have the time a seperate bill for adding water cooling would be great, custom loop for chip and both GPU's

Budget is around £700 but could go as high as £1k with custom loop.

As always thanks for your time and advice, additionally if there are specific debilitating issues with SLI on the 480's please speak up as that might be reason enough to flog them and get a new card.

The 480's may be the issue, they are power hungry, hot running card. In SLI there akin to bonfire night (joking aside), theyll be very hot.

Performance wise (single card) they fall around the GTX 570/ GTX 660 area.

I would adivse selling them (both) and with the money you can get a GTX 670 (with the option to get two for SLI)

Will need a cooler for this, unless you get watercooling with it from the get go.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC Twin Frozr Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £191.99

Sell the 480's to cover the cost.

- Watercooling kit along with a very capable case for watercooling. - Covers the CPU for now, can add a GPU block if the funds allow.
- Good card that SLI's well so if you want to do so in the future, the PSU is also there to do that.
- Very good SSD, fast ram for the CPU to enjoy, etc etc.
