Partioning

I've recently formatted my PC, but I'm going to do it again because I feel I need to have it partioned.

It's a single 200GB sata HDD running Windows XP home. I have no idea on partioning so any advice woulbe be welcomed.

My HDD is 200GB but it shows up something along 186 GB as well.

This is what I want:
1) 40GB partition for music and videos
2) 30 GB partition for general data like saved files and various .exe's I download.
3) 130 GB which will be my C: drive in which I'll install my applications and games too.

Now I know how to format and install XP and how to delete a partion, but I'm not sure how to create multiple working partitions. I know when I next do my next clean install I can delete the existing partion and then it gets formatted and set up on, but I don't know what to put in in terms of numbers because it asks for a size and it's not in GB

I also not sure how to create the others, do I do it during the win xp setup or after the set up? I also have 1 dvd drive and 1 dvd recorder and would like my partion to drives to be C: for windows D: data e: music and the f and g drive to be the dvd drives

If I were to do it all during the XP setup and create the partitions then wont those partions be unformatted? Sorry it's just a bit confusing.

The value it asks for is in MB --- 1Gb = 1024 MB.

e.g. 40GB = 40*1024 = 40960MB.

Just choose the (C) Create partition option when installing Windows multiple times, once for each partition. You wont get the full 200Gb once formatted, as room is taken up for your File Allocation Tables etc.

Windows will allocate drive letters to your partitions, and i think they will be as you wish by default - if not they can be changed. Post if you need advice on how to.

The partitions will be unformatted, but XP will format the one you put the XP installation on.

Once operating Windows, you can use the Disk Management plugin to format your drives. (Right-click My Computer->Manage->Disk Management. Right-click the drive (partition) you are interested in and choose format.
