Partition / FS structure

ive considered ext4 but i believe its not supported out of the box (for ubuntu that is) yet. theres also some other fs (brtfs or something like that) i looked at too but thats some way off isnt it.

Ubuntu 9.04 does support ext4 OOTB. Release is next Month.
Putting everything in /home is fine
 
ext4 is available on the alternate install disc. The Jaunty kernel has some patches from the kernel-next tree to fix some of the issues. Unless your PC crashes all the time there should be no great problem with ext4.

Btrfs is probably a year away from being implemented by distros. Even then it will probably be as an experiment.

Sun's licensing bull with ZFS has been quite annoying. Native ZFS on Linux would have been great.
